Running at you with the future in my fists

Well it's been a long weekend, so forgive my lax updating. I believe I left here on Friday looking forward to Nightmare...

Well I headed into town to meet Charlotte. Lovely lass who a few of the Sell Out crew might remember, she was teaching in New York for a year, and is back in Notts (step back, eh?) now. Went for a couple of drinks in the White Hart where manniqueen_ and pai_kitagowa were already ensconced. A couple of guys from work were out, including fiendil and spazzhammer was behind the decks, the rest of the pub was empty. Moved on to Nightmare, which was a little empty considering (or maybe because) it was a holiday weekend. Still, the PA is sorted (thank fuck) and the drinks offers are pretty damn good for a Lace Market bar. I'd taken a couple of ephedra, so wasn't drinking anything stronger than red bull, and spent the whole night being very, very alert, which is slightly less good when the room isn't packed. The usual mentionables were in attendance, although it was good to see shimari after such a long time, and props must be given to urbancannibal for playing an electro version of MC Lars 'Hey That's Me'. The night went on till three, which was unexpected, and petered out a little too early, but we made it until about half two whereupon I walked Charlotte to her friend's place and headed home myself. In all, not the night it could have been, but Nightmare is properly set now with a great venue, a decent PA, and decent drinks offers.

Saturday felt like Sunday, so was wasted in bed. When I realised it was nice (far too late on), I collared jonthebloody and headed to the Arboretum to throw the frisbee round for a bit. The Arbo was surprisingly empty considering it was a bank holiday weekend, but it wasn't as nice out as it had been the day before. Grabbed some food, then debated what to do with the evening. The original plan was astrofeline's party, but Jo (who has the prefix 'Preston', due to her Uni) was heading up from Essex back North, and fancied a stop off in Notts. She finally made it to the flat, an achievement considering my directions, and we bit the bullet and went for Rock City. In hindsight, this was a BAD MOVE. City was worse than normal, and this is no mean feat. Despite manniqueen_, shallowthing and a surprising appearance from pyretta69, the night was a bit of a failure. Jo made the night more bearable by stocking up on bitch-pop for us all before midnight, but that only served to prolong the boredom. Even a brief appearance from the delectable Kate failed to give the night a positive spin. Back to mine for shit computer games and ice cream, which was a high point really. Still, win some, lose some.

Sunday was spent sleeping and procrastinating until deciding what to eat. Tried driving to Asda but got caught in a Sikh parade of sorts through Hyson Green, only to find Asda was shut. Everything shuts down on Easter Sunday, goddamn religious festivals. Religion is all well and good until two aspects of it stand between me and my breakfast. Anyway, after an over long drive round the back streets of Radford we settled on a decent Sunday lunch in the Sir John. Fed and watered, and with the sun shining, we decided on the Arbo again. This time we were joined by squeeface, but it was colder than it looked, and none of us could be arsed with running after a plastic disc. shallowthing and soldatengrab turned up just as we were leaving, and buggered off to have fun without us somewhere. And now it's Monday morning, and I'm back on the night shifts, I must offer my thanks to kimera_hydra for keeping me entertained into the wee small hours on MSN.

Some musical commentary. As reported by wordsfromrob, Miocene have split up. This upsets me, as I only got to see them once back in 2000, and that night is still etched in my mind :( Another fine band bites the dust :( In a similar prog-metal vein, the new Tool single 'Vicarious' has leaked. It's good, which won't surprise many, but Tool are one of those bands that I just don't *get*. I like them, hell I like them a lot, but with any band with that amount of hype surrounding them, I just don't understand why people build them up so much. 'Vicarious' is well worth a download, though.

A random infolet (yes, it's a word). You can get Cadbury's Creme Eggs IN A BAR. I'm frankly AMAZED that no one has noticed or mentioned this before, they're LOVELY.

Which leaves us with what appears to be quite a nice, sunny Easter Monday. What are people's plans, then? I fancy doing something this afternoon :)
