If, there's one thing I've noticed about the Lolita community, it's that many of the members are quite, ..defensive towards the fashion.
Now than, I can certainly understand some need for that, but sometimes it feels to me that "we" go overboard.
A. Lolita is not sexual!
-Now, I can understand this, the name has unfortunate sexual connatations.. however, is considering Lolita sexy really such a bad thing? Does sexy have to mean trashy? I find lolita fashion to be "sexy" for it's modesty. "Sexy" shouldn't always equal trashy.
B. Lolita is not a costume!
Isn't that up to the individual..? Anything can be a fashion, anything can be a costume. In my opinion, it depends on what the person feels and wants when they wear the dress/clothing.
C. That's NOT lolita!
Now, I understand that every fashion has it's rules, and those rules are important to know. After all, you can only make adjustments to the recipe AFTER you know the base recipe, yes? But more than anything, it seems like several people in Lolita fashion are quite unhappy with things INSPIRED by the fashion. I realize that inspired does not equal "the same", but it seems to me that it's better.. mayhaps even more fun, to smile and appreciate the similarities, so long as you know what is what.
Perhaps I just have a different mindset? I hope I didn't offend anyone.
In other news, I ordered an outfit from Bodyline for Halloween.
haha.. it has little bat wings. :p Well, it -is- for Halloween.
