Its been 10 weeks since my last update... and about a month since i stopped trying to figure out exactly how i want to update it-- but somewhere in the middle of tossing and turning last night (and well into the morning) i almost worked up the energy to get up and start writing. Of course, as soon as i got one foot out of bed, i fell asleep and ended up not making it to work on time =| typical.

So a quick update on my life: I work nearly full time now, i havnt missed a day of class this quarter, my car is at my friend's garage being given a makeover as i write this, and i still think february and everything it represents sucks (but i'm hopeful for change).

Onto business:

There are some songs i will never get tired of-- it doesnt matter how many times i play them or how long they sit in my mp3 player-- everytime i hear them i sink back into a feeling of satisfaction and content. Ive decided that im going to share some of these songs with you [with little reguard for whether you really want to listen or not] in hopes that maybe some of you will find the same thing i have found in them. Bliss.

If you find any interest in any of these, dont hesitate to ask me to send you the songs!

1. Lousiana 1927 - Aaron Neville
-----beautiful little song i discovered about a year ago and a million or so other people discovered after Katrina. It does have its faults though... after hearing one line you'll think it was written by a lyrical genius, but then it comes back with a line so out of place that it nearly ruins the whole song. In case you are interested in this song, listen to it before looking at a picture of Aaron Neville. A 250+lb. black soprano is never a beautiful sight.

2. For You - Johnny Cash feat. Dave Matthews
-----im gonna go out on a limb here and say that the great man in black actually has little singing talent *stands back for tomato barrage* but like bob dylan, he is so much a legend that it really doesnt matter. Combining the talents of Cash and Matthews is pure brilliance in my opinion, but you've really got to listen to this song to fully appreciate it.

3. Ooh Child - Five Stairsteps
-----such a somber song set to such a lively beat. Reminds me of Maya Angelou actually... everyone should listen to this song at least once.

4. Treasure - Trevor Rabin
-----National Treasure would have been infinitly better had it not been a disney movie, but thats not to say it didnt have its strong points. In my opinion, Rabin is a genius who has very negativly been influenced by his hard rock days with the band "Yes," but that's not to say that his very prominent style isnt welcome by Hollywood. He is definitly one to watch for in the future-- and i believe with all my heart that its compositions like "treasure" that he will become famous for. Beautifully written.

5. So Was Red -
-----This piece has come to great acclaim as the theme for "Brokeback Mountain," but it was actually written by Thomas Newman for Shawshank Redemption (still one of the greatest movies ever made in my honest opinion) years prior. Those of you who have seen the movie will be brought within an inch of tears after hearing this masterpiece.

Ive got a million more of these for yah if you guys are still willing to listen. Drop me a line.
