So last night my soccer team lost their game (which puts us at 2-3 on the season), but I was extremely proud of them anyhow. This same team thrashed us a couple weeks back 7-1, and the only thing that kept the score from being worse is that the league has a mercy rule that forbids teams from continuing to score if they’re ahead by 6 points. Last night our kids went out and played aggressively, exhibited great teamwork - and scared the other team badly by scoring the first 2 goals in rather quick succession. The final score ended up being 5-3, and the other team had to hustle their butts off for everything they got. It was a remarkable improvement for us, and hence why I am so proud of our kids.
They’re great kids, and we have a lot of fun running practices and games with them.
On the down side…
the league organization continues to get worse and worse. The latest debacle is team photos. At this Saturday’s game they handed out the order packets for team photos and a schedule for when they would be taken. The day they scheduled is this coming Friday. We had had no news prior to then of photos being scheduled - so basically everyone was given less than a week’s notice.
Yesterday (Tuesday), we received an email telling us that the times they had given out on Saturday were wrong, and they were still trying to work out with the photographers what the correct times would be. So right now we still don’t know what time to tell our players to be there. On top of that, one of the teams had a bye week this Saturday, so they weren’t on the field to get handed their packets. Nobody from the league bothered to contact their coach - so her very first news of the photos being scheduled at all was the email yesterday telling everyone that the times were wrong.
We have a lot of fun with the kids, but the league is so frustrating that Bonnie really just doesn’t want to do it again next season.
