Before me sit my sixth graders
On folding chairs
Oversized sketch books in their laps
Make desktops
We aren't in my classroom
because I didn't want to take down
every single poster
that would give answers away
I keep getting up
Setting down my laptop
Where I am NOT doing work
To clarify questions
It's nice, you know
For the teacher
When the time comes for final exams
Because it's all downhill from here
The course work I've taught
Has already been learned--or not
Now is their chance to show me what they've got
And all I've go to do is grade--ALL WEEKEND.
