Sunshine Cleaning

Last night I decided to rent a movie. I cannot remember the last time I rented a movie, it has been that long. Who would have thought that the first movie I chose to rent in the longest time would take place just blocks from where I live? And I had no idea before I started watching it. Absolutely crazy!

Anyways, I liked the 2008 film a lot. It's about a single mom with a loser for a sister, an entrepreneur for a dad and a son who does strange things. The son's school (a school not far from my apartment) says they will require him to be medicated to make his behavior more normal and she refuses (go her!). Instead she pulls him out of the public school and decides to start her own business with her sister cleaning up homicide and suicide scenes to pay for a private school. She gets the idea for the business from the guy she is dating who happens to be married to somebody else. Basically, the movie is about relationships and how odd they can come about and be--and in such strange contexts.

The when the dad is with his grandson at the counter in Buffet's candy store he is standing in the exact same place I stood when I asked to talk to a manager about the store partnering with my school for fund raising. It's odd to see a mainstream film taking place somewhere so familiar. I'd recommend it. It would help you get an idea of diversity the area I live in, on top of it being enjoyable.
