It was noticeably lighter out when I left for school this morning than the last time I walked. Evidence of longer days.
Our new President was sworn in today. I felt I couldn't agree more with his inaugural speech. He says he wants the things that I want for our world. For the first time in a long time I felt proud to be an American.
I taught my first official lesson today and it went really well. Hard work starts to pay off.
The sun could not have been shining brighter on the way home and I had a new album to listen to. It was warm enough to take off my hat and scarf and splash though puddles. This must be what grandpa keeps calling "January Thaw."
When I got home there a huge box waiting for me containing new rain boots and a new glass to put my french press back in service. I shared the best pot of coffee I've had in about a month with my grandma and then the dog and I splashed our around the block--without coats, I in the new bright blue boots.
Back home we greeted the mail carrier who brought the first seed catalog of the year. Over dinner my grandpa and I talked about using the glass covered table/box he had built and grandma had painted to start seedlings growing in less than two months and grandma chimed in with suggestions of butternut squash.
It's still mid-winter, but it feels a lot more like the alive of winter than the dead of it. If the snow plows have come by to scoop away the slush, I just might get my bike out this week.
Hooray for the day!
