Yikes! Has it been that long???

Okay, this entire year is whizzing by and I haven't done a single post. I do have a good excuse (I think). Much to my surprise, I adopted a wee doggie right at New Years and he's been consuming most of my attention. I'll be posting pictures soon but here's the basics - he's 3, weighs about 20 lbs, and pretty well trained in the basics (lol, he learned them in Spanish so now he's bilingual!). He's also a poodle mix so no shedding - YEA!!!!

While he's quite adorable, snuggly and smart, he's also got some MAJOR issues we're having to work though. Specifically he's got a massive case of separation anxiety. Luckily I take him to work with me every day so he's well taken care of during the day. Plus, he gets loads of pets and treats from everyone else at work.

The 2nd huge issue is a mix of fear and aggression he poses towards other dogs and certain other people. Obviously somebody (and likely a man with a hoodie or hat) scared/hurt him so I have to be extra careful when we pass guys dressed like that as the dog will growl and throw himself at them.

The 'other dog' syndrome is more puzzling - he used to live with his prior owner and another dog (his father actually) so sometimes he seems like he wants to greet them/play etc. but then he gets very aggressive, growly, and so forth. He's much better off the leash but even then can be weird. I actually feel so sorry for him then, he can't make friends because he's so nutso around other dogs.

So, we're starting with a doggie trainer this coming Wed. I'll be really curious what she recommends for him.

On other real life fronts, I'm in my 4th (can you believe it) session of Spanish. The classes often eat my lunch but I'm really enjoying it and feel like I've made a lot of progress.

I miss writing, hell I miss having even a single writing bunny, but thank god there are others out there who keep me inspired. To all on my flist, thanks for keeping me in your circle even if I'm quieter than usual. I am here, I promise!!! Much love!
