Howard Street

Let me tell you about my night. I was headed over to Megan's new apartment in Los Alamitos last night at about 6:30pm. We were meeting up and then going to head to the golf course to hit a few balls. As I'm driving down her street I see a few cop cars, but pass them as I'm looking for a spot. I didn't want to try to parallel park in a small spot so I basically park about 6 buildings down. After parking I look to my left and see one of the cops standing at the edge of the building with his gun drawn. Now a normal person would just drive off and find a new parking spot, but oh no, not Tricia. As I'm sitting in my car debating what I want to do another cop joins the first one and now they are pointing down the alley. So I try calling Megan, but she doesn't have cell phone reception in her house. I made a run for it. I got out of the car and high tailed it down the street.

So Megan joins me outside and now we can't leave because one of the cop cars has her blocked in. While we were waiting we saw a fire truck and an ambulance roll up. People were starting to be lookie loos too. Fortunately, we didn't have to wait too long because a cop car raced down the street doing 90 and then dude that was blocking us in jumped in his car and peeled out too. So there we were on our marry way.

We ended up getting back to her place at 9ish and now it turned into an ordeal. Eyewitness news and KCAL were there, the whole street was blocked off, big spot lights were out, and the area right around my car was taped off. Yah, good parking job Tricia. Megan and I ask around about what happened and rumor had it that it was some domestic dispute and the guy was still missing. We ended up walking down to the area and talked to a few cops... yah my car would be apparently stuck there for at least 3 hours. The cops told us to go watch it on TV. Yah, that would be a little hard since it was night two in the new apartment and Megan doesn't even have cable. So then what do all the cops tell Megan and I to do? Go have a beer. So we joke around a little with the cops and head back inside.

Around 11pm we went to check the scene again. This time we talked to a nice dude that I think was going to let me get my car because I told him I wanted to go home. But we got stopped in our tracks when other cop told us that nothing in the taped area can be moved or touched. Yesssssssss... another 2 hours? So I gave up and decided to spend the night. We locked ourselves in and I had a nightmare that the guy missing tried to crawl in the window.

In the morning my car was safe to go. I was seriously parked directly across from the crime scene. Only I would survey the scene and say, sure, why not park here. When I got home I watched the special ABC report on it that my mom TiVo-ed for me. A 32 year old, unidentified women was shot several times in the house and they were still looking for the guy that CRAWLED out the back WINDOW of the house.

The line of the night... "3 hours? Come on... on CSI they get it done in an hour." Thanks Megan for your hospitality even if I got you to knock on your neighbor's door for an egg and they only use egg substitute... you still owe me brownies!
