Nichkhun found himself staring into the mirror of the men’s bathroom. He was hunched over the porcelain sink, his hands clutching the rim, the faucet running. He turned it off by pressing down on the chrome handle. In the mirror, he saw Wooyoung come out of one of the stalls.

“Not sure why I ended up in there,” he said, walking over to the sink. He turned on the faucet and pulled up the sleeves of his blazer. He began washing his hands, playing with the foam from the soap dispenser.

“Do you know if everyone else is where they’re supposed to be?” Wooyoung asked.

“I’m sure they’re fine. Let’s handle things on our end before seeing how everyone else is doing.” As Nichkhun said this, he turned to his left, and playfully blew some of the soap bubbles off his hand and into the blond’s hair. Wooyoung smiled.

“Ahh-Let’s go,” Nichkhun said, grabbing onto Wooyoung’s still soapy wrist.

“1아아아아-잠깐만요잠깐만요,” Wooyoung pleaded.

The pair stepped outside to the promenade as soon as Wooyoung finished rinsing and drying his hands. The great hall was already filled with people-projections-and the two began looking for Seung Hyun. Wooyoung in particular was looking around for something else. His head whipped around and craned upwards, the behaviour that Nichkhun noticed.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, concerned.

“I thought I put an ice cream vending machine in here,” he said, looking behind him as he walked.

Nichkhun rubbed his neck, bewildered, “Really? Ice cream?” Nichkhun thought, “Well … okay then.”

He turned his back, and looked around, making a full rotation, he said, “Over there, Wooyoung-ah,” Nichkhun pointed, near the bar, “but we really should look for Seu-“

“Hngh?” Wooyoung was already walking back towards him with a popsicle in his mouth. His expression displayed a genuine childish look as he seemed to wait for Nichkhun to finish his sentence.

“Uhh … nevermind.”

Wooyoung took out a wallet and purposely dropped it on the ground only to pick up again and tap on the shoulder of one of the projections, one overweight man with his wife next to him, both dressed formally for the show that was to commence in half an hour or so. The man turned around and Wooyoung said, smiling innocently, “Sir, I think you dropped this.” The man accepted the wallet, half grateful and half confused, patting his pockets for the apparent lost-and-found wallet.

“Seung Hyun’s subconscious ice cream sucks,” Wooyoung, taking it out of his mouth, and smacking his lips and sticking his tongue out in dislike, but continued eating it regardless.

“Okay, we better hurry up, Nichkhun hyung, we have to find Seung Hyun so we can suggest the concept into his mind. We can’t keep stalling like this,” Wooyoung advised.

“There. There he is, he just got his ticket stub. Now, you go and speak with him, I’ll go change. Go, go,” he ushered Nichkhun in his direction, much to the blond man’s annoyance. Nichkhun looked back and saw Wooyoung walking through the crowd, gently prodding his way through the projections.

Nichkhun approached Seung Hyun, straightening out his suit and said loudly, “Seung Hyun hyung!”

The man turned around and with a slightly stilted face, “Nichkhun-sshi?” Both men bowed to each other, Nichkhun slightly lower, and both shook hands casually and walked next to each other.

“Have you been well, Nichkhun-ah?” Seung Hyun asked, his face still straight.

Nichkhun nodded, smiling. “I was hired by the FBI to work at the 2BAU division in Quantico,” Nichkhun lied.

“With SSA Hotchner?”

Khun nodded again. He counted himself lucky he was familiar with their names, having worked with them in the past.

“I work alongside Jennifer Jareau as the media/police liaison.”

Seung Hyun nodded in approval. “I’m glad you were able to find good work after leaving our office, Nichkhun-sshi. I haven’t heard much from you since you and Victoria resigned.”

Nichkhun continued walking beside him, smiling slightly to be polite.

“I heard from people at the office that Victoria is dating again, but from your expression that you two haven’t gotten back together.”

Nichkhun continued smiling, but he had a sullen look in his eyes.

“No, but from what I’ve heard, she also works closely with the FBI.”

Seung Hyun nodded.

“I am seeing someone now, however. He-uh,” Nichkhun stumbled, “Uh-she went to the bathroom, a few minutes ago. I wonder if she’s out yet.” He looked around, not sure what to search for.

Just then, a woman came and walked up to Nichkhun, dressed in a sleek black dress. Her black wavy hair fell past her shoulders, and tossed it when she came and stood beside them.

“Nichkhun hy-op-oppa,” she said, reluctantly leaning in for a kiss on the cheek. Nichkhun, as a reflex, pulled his face away and said bluntly in a lowered voice,

“3너 뭐하냐?!”

“Kissing you, idiot,” the woman said through clenched teeth, but when she came close to his cheek, she resisted before giving a quick peck.

Both smiled foolishly, teeth bared uncomfortably, at Seung Hyun, who just watched with an expressionless face.

“Nice to-meet you,” he stuttered, apparently taken aback by this odd exchange of intimacy that wasn’t visible on his face. He bowed to her, which she returned.

“You resemble 4Hong Soo Ah,” Seung Hyun said politely, bowing to her again.

“Ahh~thank you,” she said, with a familiar 5head tilt, before looking at Nichkhun again.

“This is my girlfriend, uh-Jang, Jang Jiyeon,” Nichkhun introduced. Jiyeon bowed again.

“Nice to meet you,” she said, hopping slightly from her bow, particularly emphasizing her bouncing breasts. Nichkhun looked away.

“Yes, nice to meet you too. You have a very beautiful name, like my sister’s.” Jiyeon noticed a slight weakening in Seung Hyun’s disposition; a slight inclination of vulnerability in his face.

“Ooh, is she here? I bet good looks run in the family, she must be very beautiful,” Jiyeon persisted to weaken his shield. She looked around, seemingly searching for his sister.

“No, she passed away about 6 months ago.”

Jiyeon clapped her hands to her mouth, displaying her embarrassment for making such a remark.

“6오마이갓! I’m so sorry, I did not mean-“

“It’s okay, you-you didn’t know.”

Nichkhun’s ears have turned a dark shade of red, and his lips moved slightly wanted to say something, but he couldn’t speak.

“The show will start soon enough, shall we go find our seats before we having to walk past people’s knees?”

As Seung Hyun motioned to take his ticket stub out of his jacket pocket, Jiyeon leaned in to look where he was seated.

“Oooh! Fourth floor, Row A, 32. You’re sitting beside us! Come, we’ll accompany each other,” she insisted, holding onto his arm, leaving Nichkhun a few steps behind.

“Uh, Jiyeon, can I talk to you for a minute? Please pardon us, Seung Hyun hyung, we’ll meet up with you in a minute.”

Seung Hyun nodded and left for the entrance, Jiyeon and Nichkhun remaining where they were.

“Kinda laid it on there a little thick, didn’t you, Wooyoung?”

“Hey, it worked didn’t it? His subconscious weakened. See, look at that those girls over there, they’re staring at us.” Wooyoung, gave a nod and bit his lower lip, still disguised as Nichkhun’s date.

“You know that’s not exactly a good thing,” Nichkhun warned.

“Don’t worry, as long as he’s not feeling particularly threatened, they won’t amass and shoot us to death.” Wooyoung pulled up his falling top.

“And what was with the … bouncing?”

“Hey, it’s not everyday I have a womanly figure as hot as this, okay. Listen, I’ll go back to him, and suggest the concept. You come back after a bit, and we’ll carry out the next step of the plan. My eyes are up here, buddy; tell Jaebeom to practice a bit more caution while he sets things up. His projections are starting to leer.”

Nichkhun nodded, and pulled out this phone.

“Okay, I’m gonna go talk to him now, see you in a bit,” Wooyoung leaned in and gave Nichkhun another peck on the cheek. Childishly giggling at Nichkun’s shock and discomfort, he headed for the theatre.

He climbed the stairs, cursing his heels and resorting to walking barefoot for the remaining flights, clutching a shoe in each hand.

“Fucking 7Christian Louboutins. Why the fuck did I choose to wear these-AH FUCK”

He let go of the one in his right hand when he accidently clutched one of the studs on the heel. He didn’t bother retrieving the shoe while he continued swearing a string of Korean curses until he reached the fourth ring.

When he made it to the balcony, he saw Seung Hyun sitting in his seat, his vulnerability clearly shown when reminded of his sister. Wooyoung gracefully walked over to his seat and sat down, pulling his dress down to cover more of his thigh.

“Seung Hyun-sshi, again I am so sorry for what I said. I had no idea, I apologize,” Wooyoung pleaded, bowing until his head reached his knees. He sat up again, tossing his hair over his right shoulder. Wooyoung shifted so that he sat closer to the man beside him.

“If I may be so bold, may I ask how she passed?”

Seung Hyun showed a frown, a clear emotion displayed for the first time since Wooyoung met him.

“She was murdered.”

Wooyoung wasn’t surprised of the news, having known about it prior to the start of the mission, but acted shocked, covering his open mouth with his hands.

“Do-do you know who?” he asked, feigning a stuttering voice.

Seung Hyun shook his head.

Wooyoung took the opportunity of the knowledge he possesses, and got straight to the point.

“Please, don’t-“ Wooyoung started, carefully treading, “-blame yourself.”

Seung Hyun looked up at him, startled, a bit of anger in his eyes. Wooyoung was now walking on thin ice, but he continued on. He tried his best to be sincere and genuine. He tried is best to stick to the plan on what he had to say. Using the name Jiyeon and calling attention to the death of his sister was able to provoke his subconscious to open up, but now it was beginning to resist. Jaebeom warned him about not stirring up emotions too much, but Wooyoung thought that doing so would nearly be impossible with a topic as sensitive as this.

“Jiyeon-ah?” Seung Hyun said.

Wooyoung was a little shocked by his informality.

“Jiyeon-ah, I’m sorry,” Seung Hyun said.

Wooyoung looked down, not wearing the dress he forged. Instead, he wore a white blazer on top of a skirt of the same colour. Looking at his hands, stained with blood, he looked back at Seung Hyun, who was tearing up,

Wooyoung was a little shaken up. Not understanding why he was now covered in blood, he improvised. Clutching his hand into fists, he threw his hands down onto his lap and said,

“Seung Hyun oppa, don’t blame yourself. This-“ he looked down to his clothes, “-it’s not your fault.”

Wooyoung continued with the main points he was meant to cover with his discussion with the Mark.

“It-we’ll-you’ll find the person who did this to me, okay?”

“Jiyeon-ah?”

Wooyoung turned around. Nichkhun was carrying Wooyoung’s missing heel. Quickly, Wooyoung looked down at what he was wearing.

“Black dress …” he muttered has he ran his hand along the fabric. He turned back at Seung Hyun, who was leaning back into his seat, an air of casual coldness to his demeanour, as if he weren’t speaking to his dead sister just a moment ago.

The show was going to start soon, and Nichkhun sat down quietly, handing the heel over to Wooyoung.

“Ah, my Prince Charming,” he bantered, tossing his hair again. He quickly regained his composure, but he couldn’t shake the feeling as to how Seung Hyun’s unconscious was able to use him as a surrogate, how was it able to project the shadow of his dead sister onto his being.

It was then when Wooyoung found out that there were more issues to Seung Hyun’s mind than what the rest of the team had thought.
