Fatherly wisdom, which normally centers around windshield wiper fluid, recently included a rather insulting gem.
I was eating lunch at my parents' house one Sunday afternoon, and Dad was sitting with me (everyone else had already eaten and left).
"Now son, I want you to be careful when you're going around midtown. There's a guy on the force, he was going around there and picked up a guy, and he got in to all kinds of trouble."
It took me a few minutes to understand that he didn't mean the cop had picked up someone in the course of his duty but had picked someone up as in a male prostitute.
Thanks Dad.
Although, he did leave a very nice message on Friday that I guess is in the same vein, asking me to be careful and to not do anything that would get me locked up.
What do my parents think I do?
I guess if I don't want them to think things like that, I should be more honest with them.
