Guess who's back?

Goodness me! Well, there goes another failed attempt at retirement. Some of you may know that I've tried to retire from acting several times. After high school, after JCS 1998, after Much Ado About Nothing 2000, and after JCS 2004. It's not that I don't love acting, but I guess I just that I know how much work is involved and would have liked to keep my life balanced and not all acting. Well, once again, I'm coming out of "retirement" to act yet again. This time, it's a favor to a friend (again). I'm doing a scene from "The Dining Room" by A. R. Gurney. Here is where I wonder if life imitates art or vice versa. Here's my character. I was a stock broker, but now gave that life up to be a carpenter. I'm called into a job to help a lady fix her dining room table. The lady begins to flirt with me and eventually I open up and start dialoguing with her about the table. We eventually agree to work on the table together and become a "partnership". At first glance, we're just fixing the table. However, the metaphor is that the table represents our life. I was once rich and powerful as a stockbroker but gave it up for a simpler life. Maybe that rich life left me broken and now I have to fix it. Her life was obviously broken, after losing her husband. The idea of fixing the table together offers them a chance to fix their lives, together. My character is slow to warm up, a bit hesitant to dive into the idea of the "relationship", wants to take his time and do things right, and wants to teach what he has learned. The woman wants to fix her life, try something new, find a new person to fill the void left by her ex-husband, and is willing to give it all a shot. If this isn't a copy of my current life, I really don't know what is. To boot, my character and I have the same name. God be with us, God help us.
