First week went well, I guess. My new scedule is so different from any other I've had, and I feel like I have no time to do anything between classes. We'll be working a lot more this quarter. I figure we'll get about $55 a week, which isn't bad.
Chinese Film seems like it'll be pretty easy. I have to say, though, that people are going to piss me off when we discuss the actual films. We just watched "Farewell My Concubine," and people looked WAY too deeply into some things. I think people looked for symbolism where there was none, and the professor really didn't correct anybody.
STUDENT: Um...when they were standing on the endge of the lake, um, singing real loud...that probably symbolizes something...but I don't really--
MEGHAN: Actually, that's just how people practice projecting their voice in Beijing Opera...
PROFESSOR: *nods at Meghan*
STUDENT: Ohhh. I see...
OTHER STUDENT: OH! And what about when only one character would be in the shot while they spoke...that's GOTTA mean something about impending doom...
ME: *thinking* Uhhh, that's called a CLOSE-UP!!!!!! *heavy sigh*
Anyhoo, my new icons made my day. I wanna be as cool as Ewan and dance holding a mug...or as cool as the Harry Potter kids trying to dance and failing.
