I'm back and have read it!

Uuuunf this is just marvellous.

No really. It is.

He has no friends. People around here think he talks weird and looks too rough around the edges, which he supposes he does to them. Everyone he sees here is soft and smiling and perfectly put together.

I loved that part. I love it, because it seems to be the base of why he can be such a bitch (even though we love him for that) and why he's so rough and yet a little insecure and friendly at the same time.

He quits the next day and he's found a new apartment in a better area by the next week and he manages to get a new job driving a taxi cab by using some connections and-the whole time, he's just thinking, like, shit, why didn't he mind that as much as he should have?

At that, I felt the need to give Joe one big hug - running from his own feelings. Aww. Seems very in-character to me, though, and I like how you've incorporated both the mentions of him having worked as a barber, and him having worked as a taxi-driver, though I'm STILL not sure which of the two he really was. If he wasn't both. Obviously.

The words are too sincere, really, too heartfelt. Web says everything like it's prose in a book, and it's almost annoying, save for the fact that it's not, because it's Web and Web is-is Web, which hardly makes any sense, but-

he kisses Web behind the barracks and thinks that, if he actually had anyone worth writing home to, this would be something worth writing home about, if he could even find the words to describe the way that Web and him sort of fall into each other and just fit, not like it's meant to be, but at least like they've both found something that works

-he thinks he might love Web for it, anyway.

That is exactly what Webgott is to me. (And I love soldier boys kissing in the relatively cool shade of a barracks).

"I do talk like a normal person," Web says, exasperated, but, still, he adds, "I just-I think that if we're meant to meet up again, we will."

We all know Webster is perfectly capable of lending faith a hand.

And, Joseph Liebgott, he doesn't mind that one bit.

*MELTS*

The miniseries implies heavily that he is, but he was actually raised to be a Roman Catholic. Many of his fellow paratroopers assumed he was Jewish, including Webster, and he let them think that he was.

I LOVE how he also made them believe that the Austrian accent he had - which the others didn't understand (which is perfectly understandable, on their part, because when I've got Austrian customers at work - I'm Dutch - I don't understand them either while it should be German) - was in fact Hebrew XD. (As for me, I sometimes like writing Lieb as a Jewish kind of guy because it makes him more like the (Inglorious) Basterds - though I also like writing him as more or less Catholic simply because that way he is committing more sins which makes it more dramatic but also more real/rant).

And, yes, Web was in Fox Company for a while, up until he transferred to Easy after the Battle of Normandy. I only point that out because I wasn't aware of that until I read more about him! Perhaps that's actually mentioned in the miniseries, I tend to miss little facts like that when I'm not looking for them, but as far as I remember he just kind of showed up one day and knew about Dear John letters and was suddenly an important character, haha.

It's a commonly known fact - I mean, you would also have figured it out if you'd been in the fandom a little longer. But it is NOT mentioned in the mini series - they just have Web show up in Holland all of a sudden (like he's some kind of replacement, lol). I also read somewhere Web was in the hospital together with Lieb and McCreary (God, I hope I spelt that right), who was one of his platoon mates. Lieb hardly gets mentioned in Parachute Infantry though DDDD: WHYYYY.

(Um, seriously. Remember the scene where Web gets back from the hospital and he joins the rest in Haguenau and Lieb has a go at him? The text Lieb says was originally meant for Cobb. And I bet the bit where he says "you been working out?" wasn't in the script either. I wonder whose real fault the Webgott in the series is - the directors their faults, or Eion and Ross' faults).

WUH don't apologize, I love long comments, they make me really happy. :3

And I'm glad you liked it so much! I'm always endlessly nervous when it comes to new fandoms (although I've actually been in this fandom for years, I just haven't posted anything for it until now) so I'm always glad to hear someone likes it.

One thing I do know about Lieb, he was both a barber and a taxi cab driver. I'm not sure about the specifics (obviously), and I doubt he got the cab driver job because of a gay encounter, but he did both, I made sure. I was super OCD about facts in this fic in general, really, I used to have a full doc of all the sources I had on everything, from that to Web being in Fox Company, but I ended up deleting it because I thought it was a bit overboard, ha.

"Lieb hardly gets mentioned in Parachute Infantry though DDDD: WHYYYY." Bluh, I know right? Lieb was such a recluse after the war, so his account is missing from almost EVERYTHING, I swear, which is a real shame, because he was such an interesting guy. It sometimes makes me worry because I consider him my favorite character, but I always wonder how accurate his portrayal was...

"I wonder whose real fault the Webgott in the series is - the directors their faults, or Eion and Ross' faults." Hahaha, so true. Honestly, while they're never mentioned as interacting much in the source material, I have to imagine they did interact to a point. Their personalities just seem likely to have brought them together in some way or another. Or maybe that's just me being hopelessly in love with this ship, I don't know. Lordy, lord, what these boys do to me.

But anyway! Thanks so much for the comments, I appreciate them very much. And thank you, as well, for the compliment on my music taste. I actually think my taste in music is pretty shitty.

Long comments are epic. :) I think all writers feel happy when they receive one.

I suppose if there's one fandom in which you don't have to be nervous about being new, it is Band of Brothers. It's amazing, I've found, how the fandom reacts to new people. There are no real BNFs, there is no hostile behaviour towards newbies.

Why did you delete it!! D: Things like those are brilliant for research. I don't always stick to the facts but when I'm doing an epic piece (like the one I'm working on now - which was supposed to be my War Big Bang last year, but I never had time to finish it) I do want to get the facts right. Or at least, far as I can. And with slash inserted. xD

Aagh yes! I KNOW. Web and Lieb are my favourite characters, and of course Web's got that book of his but I also wonder how accurate THAT is. I mean, it does miss huge chunks- e.g. we get to read NOTHING about his youth, except that he played soldiers as kid. And then NOTHING about Harvard either, which makes me wonder why he keeps quiet about that, as well as his time in the hospital. Nothing. As for Liebgott, why did he have to die in the early '90s D: I bet they'd have done a book with him too, if he'd lived a little longer - same with Luz, though we obviously know way more about him. I'd loved to read those books. It seems to me that the Liebgott in the series is almost like a mashup of different characters in the books.

Hahaha, so true. Honestly, while they're never mentioned as interacting much in the source material, I have to imagine they did interact to a point. They both spoke German... Lol. But yeah, Webster would probably be the guy Liebgott would keep picking on, much like he does in the series. Which might well lead to (sexual) encounters in alleyways and then Joe being completely devastated when he hears that Web's been- uh. That sounds like fic, doesn't it? Meh. As for the real guys, uhm, I tweeted the link to Eion's gay kiss to Ross. Which he watched. Oh god why did I do that.

As for the music, MUSIC.
