Destined Hearts: First Heart <3
Bae Suzy stared outside the window. The sun had nearly set but there were still many people around the city completing their duty for the day. Smiled brought to her lips when she saw a cute little girl was pleading cutely to her dad for a cup of ice cream. She has always loved ice cream since young and ice cream was her loyal companion especially when she was down- much more like today. She looked at the empty bowls of ice cream on the table. She has finished three bowls of vanilla flavoured ice cream since she arrived at that shop.
It was getting late and she should make a move if she does not want to be caught in a traffic jam. She was about to leave when a jingly sound at the entrance door rang and a six feet tall hunk with curly dark hair entered the shop. His eyes were roaming around and stop when he spotted her. He made his way elegantly to her place. She found it amusing when she saw many pair of eyes especially women but not to miss some guys as well looking at him interestingly.
“You never failed to capture the attention whenever you’re around,”
She said as he made himself comfortable in front of her. He turned around and saw some people still staring at him.
“Thank you. I think I deserved the attention that people are giving me since I worked hard to look this good,” he said jokingly.
Suzy was smiling because of this man in front of her.
“Yeah, you’re right. I must say you look good today. So what’s the occasion?”
She put her car keys back in her purse as a petite young waitress stop at their table.
“May I take your order sir?” said the waitress while smiling sweetly at the man in front of her.
“It’s okay. We’re about to leave anyway,” he said politely and gestured ‘no’ to the waitress.
There was visible disappointment appeared on the girl’s face when she left the table. The girl must fell in love at the first sight, she thought.
“I had a presentation today for the Berry Inc. you know for their new headquarters in Gwangju,” he said while rolled up his shirt sleeves up to his elbow.
She nodded. “Yeah I remembered that. So how did it go? Did they pinch you for the project?”
“Well of course. It’s me, remember? Who else can make a better design than me in our company?” he said proudly while pointing to himself.
“That I have to agree Chansung. You’re definitely the best architect in our company,”
Hearing that, Chansung smiled even widely.
“So what’s up with you Suzy? What makes you sad? Is there anything you want to share with me?” he cocked his head a little with a slight frown appeared on his forehead.
“What makes you think that I’m sad?” she faked a laugh and hoped that he believed that there was nothing wrong with her. But obviously that did not work. Chansung knew her well, maybe, too well to the point she cannot keep anything from him. That was the power of six years of friendship.
He looked at the three bowl of ice cream on the table then at her - telling her that was enough evidence to say something was wrong with her. Finally Suzy give in.
“Fine, I’ll tell you but not here,”
Chansung grinned and nodded his head. They left the shop just before the rain started to fall.
Suzy was ready to sleep when her cell phone rang. She groaned but did not make a move. She was tired. She was tired with everything that happened to her. Could it be this was her punishment on the earth for all the mistakes she did?
She closed her eyes and tried to get a good sleep. She has not been sleeping well for the past two days. After her ‘talk’ with Chansung, she went home and spent almost an hour in the bathtub. She was glad that Chansung did not judge her and was the only friend that she can talk to. Her house phone rang startled her from her thoughts. She sat up on the bed and wait till the answering machine answered for her.
“Hi, this is Bae Suzy. I’m sorry I’m not available to answer your call so please leave a message and I’ll get back to you. Beep,”
“Hey Suzy, it’s me Wooyoung. I know you were there and I know that you’ve been ignoring my calls. I just want to know you are fine. I want to see you, maybe tomorrow. Let me know if you are coming. I… I miss you Suzy”
Suzy sighed heavily when the message has ended. Gosh, she missed that man too. If only he knew how she felt right now. All she wanted to do was running towards him and never let go. But that was impossible. She lay back on the bed. Tears started rolled down her cheeks as she closed her eyes. Her mind was flying back to the event that happened two days ago.
Flashback
It was ten past nine when Suzy finished her meeting with the Hudson Company’s representatives. She was glad that Hudson accepted her idea for designing their new office. Designing has always been Suzy’s interest since she was a little girl. She would always design something while playing lego together with her brother. She loved to see the different structures that each building has and appreciate all the creative masterpieces that people built. To her, designing was an extraordinary talent that not everybody have. She was happy she was born with that talent. And what made her happier was the fact that she managed to achieve her dream to become an architect.
She locked her room and said good night to Gil Dan, the guard at the building, and made her way to the parking lot. She placed her briefcase at the passenger seat and started the journey home. She could feel her stomach growled-hungry. She decided to stop at the convenient store near her house to buy ramen when she accidently met, Wooyoung. Since it’s been awhile they gotten together they decided to go for a drink before headed home. They both went to an Italian restaurant just couple blocks from her house.
Suzy was staring at Wooyoung when he was ordering their drinks at the counter. Wooyoung was looking handsome as always. His brown hair was combed to his left side with some covered his forehead. He was wearing a black suit with matching black tie. Suddenly Wooyoung turned and looked at her; smiled sweetly. She could feel her breath hitched when she saw the smiled. Her stomach was filled with butterfly and her palms started to sweat. She felt like she was back in college where she first met Wooyoung for the first time.
Her deep thought was interrupted when Wooyoung back with their drinks. He handed the drink to her and stared at her. The stare made her uncomfortable- not because she hated it but she was shy spending time with him. Her palm was getting sweaty and the butterfly in her stomach did not help either. The only thing she could do was staring at her drink.
“So, how are you, Suzy? It’s been a while since we’re gotten together,” Wooyoung started the conversation when he realized Suzy was quiet.
Suzy daringly looked at Wooyoung and tried to act calm.
“I’m fine, oppa. Works have been crazy lately and I didn’t have much free time to hang out,”
Wooyoung nodded understand. He knew that Suzy was one of the best architects cum designer at her firm so working hard was a must to keep her position.
“Do you remember the last time we hang out together? I mean just the two of us? Wasn’t during the final year of our college?”
Wooyoung was smiling again reminiscing the old times he spent with Suzy, the only girl friend that he has at that time.
There won’t be a chance for Suzy to forget that night- the night that she hoped did not happen.
“Of course, who can forget that night? That was the day you met your future wife, Jiyeon,” there was something bitter when she said the name of her best friend. Maybe because her best friend was lucky when she was about to get married with the man she ever loved.
She drank her drink one shot-trying to drown all the bitterness she started to feel. Silent suddenly enveloped them. Suzy didn’t know where to look; she was afraid if she looked at him the tears that she kept all this while will flow like a river that won’t stop. She did not want to embarrass herself further. She wanted the night to end here but she heard Wooyoung suddenly said,
“I’ll get you another drink,” he was already on his heels when Suzy was about to stop him.
She took a deep breath and decided to go calm herself at the restroom. She signaled Wooyoung telling him that she will be back.
When she came out from the rest room she saw Wooyoung was talking to a woman in red dress who flaunting her big breast to him. She was laughing at the effort that the woman put to seduce Wooyoung - maybe trying to get him into her pants.
Wooyoung immediately left the woman when he saw Suzy was already waiting for him at their table. The woman did not look pleasant at all when she found that he was not alone that night but that did not stop her from staring at him.
Suzy was giggling when Wooyoung sat down at their table again. She found it funny how some women act trying to get men attention. If only she was brave enough like them but still she won’t do that to capture the heart of the man in front of her.
“Oppa, she was looking rather pissed when she saw you here,”
Wooyoung took a glance at the woman and look back at Suzy. He frowned.
“And why would she?”
“Because she thought you are available and probably want you to be in her bedroom tonight,”
They were both laughing at the idea. Suddenly Wooyoung jokingly said to the lady in red but loud enough for the whole restaurant to hear,
“Well, lady I think you make my girlfriend uncomfortable here,”
“Oppa,”
Suzy was shocked when Wooyoung said that. She was trying to refrained him from mentioning something stupid when she heard he said,
“Oppa, please don’t”
“Just so you know that I’m here with my beautiful girlfriend tonight and will be hers all night long,”
And that was not enough when he suddenly grabbed Suzy’s hand and brought their hand together up in the air for everyone to see. The whole restaurant was cheering for them and the lady suddenly got up and left the place.
Suzy looked at her hand which was still in Wooyoung’s hand. She could feel Wooyoung held her hand tighly as if don’t want to let go or maybe that was just her imagination. She immediately pulled her hand from that warm hand that she always wanted to hold. Her cheeks have turned red at that moment.
“You should never say that, Oppa,”
“Why?” Wooyoung has now realized that Suzy has pulled out her hand from him. Was it too much for her?
“Because I’m not and I know how that woman felt”
“What do you mean?”
Suzy decided that she should be honest with her feelings. It wasn’t like they have a chance to be together after all. He was about to get marry with her best friend and she was supposed to be happy for both of them. Finally she said what her heart told her to,
“I’ve always like you since college. Isn’t obvious, oppa?” She said while trying to fake some laugh at the end so that Wooyoung would think she would no longer felt that way about him now.
This was the first time their gaze met that night. Well, the secret that she has been hiding from him was finally out and there was no way she could take it back. Her heart was beating loudly as she waited patiently for him to answer. Again, she kept telling herself that won’t be any chance for them. Don’t want her heart to break again Suzy decided to go home.
“You know what oppa let just forget it. It was long a time ago and you’re about to get marry…soon. Let just head home, okay?”
Suzy was ready to leave when her hand was grabbed without her permission for the second time that night. He looked directly at her and felt her hand was squeezed tight.
“I walked you home,”
Silent engulfed them as they walked together. No words came out from Wooyoung since they left the restaurant. Hand still clasped together. Every time Suzy tried to release her hand Wooyoung would held tightly. Finally, they stopped at the front of Suzy’s home.
“Oppa, you can let go my hand now,”
Wooyoung finally let Suzy’s hand slipped from his. He looked at her intently as if don’t want her lose from his sight. He knew he should say something but he was afraid words come out from his mouth would broke Suzy’s heart even more. Suzy bowed at him and said good night. She made her way to the door when he spun her around and kissed her. There was no sanity left in them as they both made way to her room which immediately filled with moan and groan of pleasure. Just like that, Wooyoung’s word of that night came true.
“…and will be hers all night long,”
To be continue......
