Kingdom of God

This is going to be a reflection based or rather, one for reflection. Yesterday's gospel readings was a reflective one. The topic on the Kingdom of God was further explained in the RCIA class, though it was a little difficult to understand, the take away from the lesson is indeed food for thought.

Jesus said to his disciples:
“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field,
which a person finds and hides again,
and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant
searching for fine pearls.
When he finds a pearl of great price,
he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea,
which collects fish of every kind.
When it is full they haul it ashore
and sit down to put what is good into buckets.
What is bad they throw away.
Thus it will be at the end of the age.
The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous
and throw them into the fiery furnace,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.

“Do you understand all these things?”
They answered, “Yes.”
And he replied,
“Then every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven
is like the head of a household
who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.”

Father during his homily shared several stories. One of which was the treasure one would likely find in Vietnam - when the treasures of a couple would be hidden in the fields and when they had passed on, the treasures would be found by someone else. Father continued to share the story of the scrolls which was found in the 1940s or so, and they were sold for a small amount to shoemakers as those scrolls were of good leather. The treasure in the kingdom of God is one that we hold so dearly to. We may even give up everything we have just so we could acquire it.

So later, during the class a question was asked. And perhaps, if you're reading this post, you could ask yourself this too.

What in your life is a pearl of great value/ a treasure?
