"Billy- Billy- Billy Kaplan I can see you right there and if you even think about trying to magic yourself away or ignore me I promise I'll give you something else to think about."

There was a particularly dangerous note of calm and of a threat was certainly not empty in Kate's voice, and it stopped Billy quite firmly in his tracks. Admittedly it took him a slight moment to gather enough courage to turn around, head hanging a little with an almost childish petulance, as if he knew he'd done something wrong and he had been caught in the act. Effectively, that is exactly what had just happened, and Billy knew exactly what Kate was about to pick on - it was pretty hard to miss after all.

"I have a feeling that capes have never generally been in fashion. Ever. Unless they're on a superhero, and even then they can occasionally look pretty silly." Kate frowned, her lips slightly pursed. "Is this retaliation after the whole headwings thing? Because really, Billy, this is ju-"

"It is not about the headwings - those were cool, alright? - and seriously, is everyone up in arms about the cape? First Teddy, then Tommy, now you-"

"If I'm already the third person to mention that you shouldn't currently be wearing the cape, I think that might just be saying something, don't you?"

"It's a conspiracy."

Kate couldn't help but laugh, first a small snort, before it grew into a rolling sort of giggle, mostly because Billy looked perfectly serious, even if the expression was occasionally broken by a twitch in his own mouth, as he tried to contain his smile. Kate had originally managed to prepare an entire speech on how very, very wrong it was that Billy was walking down the streets of New York wearing a cape on top of his jeans and pretty worn looking t-shirt, but she figured that telling Billy not to wear his cape in public was probably as useful as telling a zebra not to be stripy. It just wasn't going to happen.

"You know what? Fine. I'll let the cape slide for the time being - but mark my words, Kaplan, this is not the end." Billy's face broke into a triumphant grin. "But I still think we need to do something about your fashion sense - or lackthereof." The grin was as fleeting as it was bright. "How old exactly is this t-shirt?"

"Uh..." Billy floundered slightly, trying to remember the last time he hadn't seen this shirt in some part of his closet. Kate, however, did not seem to be very inclined to wait for some answer that was probably going to be along the lines of "about four or five years", announcing quite firmly that she and Billy were now going shopping, whether he had plans or not. Grabbing him by the wrist, she started to tug as Billy spectactularly failed at trying to give some strangled excuse or make up somewhere he had to be; as it was, he didn't have anywhere to be. Being put on the spot like that made it fairly difficult to come up with said excuses - it was even harder to make up some pathetic lie that anyone else would fall for when Kate was involved.
