I liked it too, but it felt completely divorced from YA. If you read one and then the other, you wonder what the hell happened.
And yeah, there's a huge break in the middle. But 'bro'? Tommy has been around long enough to act all friendly with Billy but he's randomly got a problem with Teddy now? ...actually, it reads like they just met and Tommy wants to be Billy's big brother but hasn't cottoned on to the fact that speaking against Teddy is Just Not Done. Which doesn't match either his previous characterization or how much time has passed.
...ANYway, I could probably nitpick the issue by panel if you wanted me to, but why would you want me to? XD;
