That's what this day should truly be call and about!...."Little children, let us not love merely in theory or in speech but in deed and in truth (in practice and in sincerity)." 1 John 3:18 This scripture tells us that love is not simply a theory, a feeling, or sweet nothings wispered in an ear....Love is deeds. Many people I find have the mistaken idea and or belief that love is a warm, fuzzy feeling. This is why some people think you can't love someone who is unpleasant or even hostile. But the truth IS that love is an action, doing what needs to be done in every situation. Developing love isn't a horrible struggle, it's simply being good to people!
A bond of love with a special person is a source of joy for me, and it teaches me about the limitless generosity of spirit. As I give freely and authentically of my time, attention and ideas I am reafirmed of the great value that a relationship founded on sharing the love of God is to both people involved; and as I (once again) express the love of God to others. I connect with them in a bond that unites us heart and soal.
"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." -Galatians 5:22-23. Divine love has created a "resevoir" of goodwill, patience, kindness, and generosity within me that is always willing and waiting to be released.
"And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him/her." -John 4:16. I know how people can believe or feel that God loves them if the deserve it.... Problems arise when you feel you don't deserve God's love and yet desperately need it; and trust me! I've been down that sorrowful path and felt I was worthless, exposed and washed-up with nothing to offer God. Yet God's love is perfect and unconditional.
"There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not reached perfection in love." -1 John 4:18. When you fail He keeps loving you because His love is not based on you but on him.... If you can believe that God, who is so perfect, loves you, then you can believe that you are worth loving! When that happens you can accept yourself in a new way that will be life changing (trust me!). You're special, you have worth and value...Believe it, recieve it, and be all you can be in Christ, Buddah, Islam, tao, creator, whatever tradition you prefer:)
So I recommend and encourage anyone to take sometime today and examine your life and seek God more about you "love walk." How kind are you to people? What are you doing for others? How are you treating people who aren't treating you very nicley? Change your direction if you havn't been expressing God's love to others through joy, peace, patience, goodness, tolerance and kindness. Don't just talk about love, WALK in Love!! Happy Love Day!... and happy birhtday to my dear Grandfather who recently passed away.
