I'm being fucked over re: a purchase, so if anyone who has a legal background/or knowledge could get in contact with me so I can find out my rights. I'd be very apreciative.
I'll ask him & see if he knows anything. He's out of his office at the moment. Just tried calling him to see if my latest batch of eBay winnings have turned up yet. :o) He'll be clueless about the software piracy issue though, as it wasn't so much of an issue when he was on the bench.
As it's a private purchase, you won't be able to go to trading standards with it.
What you can do instead is to make a claim through the small claims court. They usually handle claims of up to £500. All goods sold have to be of mechandisable quality. If they are not, then the court can make the seller compensate you. Although the threat of legal action should hopefully change the seller's mind before that becomes necessary!
Also, another thing to bear in mind is that the issue of the software piracy will probably come to light if the case goes to court, which could lead to even bigger problems for whoever it is, & I'm willing to bet they won't want that to happen. :o)

What were you buying? My stepdad is an ex-magistrate, & knows a lot about this sort of thing. I could try asking him for you.
