i've been busy.
starting back last wednesday, jack + i saw mt. eerie at first unitarian church. we were not quite cool enough to be there, but stuck it out because we heart mr. elverum. i don't remember the name of the first opening act, but the girl was really nice + cute. she was singing a song and asked everyone to scream when she came to a break. so everyone screamed, and then she told us it was the wrong break. so everyone laughed. her lyrics were confusing but generally i liked her. the second opening act was wolve, a band that was a french-canadian girl. in a stroke of brilliance, she told everyone to sit down (the show was in a tiny basement crowded with fifty people, it was smoldering), proving again that canadians are smarter than americans when it comes to policy making. her set was strange because she sang in french, so the chorus of her ten-minute song was either bird, word, or merde.
then came mt. eerie. about fifteen more people came in so phil told all the people in the front to sit on the stage (which was a kid's stage about two feet off the ground). i didn't move fast enough but i wound up sitting at his (bare) feet on the ground. he says to us, "hey, did anyone see that movie [i forget the name]? you guys did? no one else? well, there's this sauna scene that's a lot like this room now. except they were all naked. it would be really funny if we were all naked". looking back, i should've volunteered, but i'll just rest knowing phil is amazing. sadly i needed SEPTA fare so i couldn't buy the new stuff. anyone know where i can get the three-vinyl or just the CD? i tried ebay.

then school started. my schedule's okay, i got to trade an hour and a half of p.e. for an hour of yoga. love malik's muslim history seminar (we're going to a mosque, so i can add that to the list of places good white catholic girls shoudln't go that i've been to) and my precalc teacher dave mraz is sooo damn dorky it's amazing. kinda pissed that they don't tell you when you sign up for photography that you have to buy your own camera. my english teacher, hotek, is an idiot: he tells us he wants to reach out to our generation by referencing the real world and tupak every five minutes. one: this screams "I'm over thirty!" and two: i resent being lumped with the drug dealers and dumb field hockey players in my class. i woudln't watch the real world unless i was forced to, clockwork orange -style.

but something super-cool happened: see, two months ago, i wrote to david and peter rothbart, founders and most of the staff of FOUND magazine. last week, i got a hand-written letter from peter saying he couldn't take on an intern (it was about my junior project) but he's be happy to help, including his email and phone number! so i did email him, basically, peter rothbart was very nice to a silly high school girl he's never met and you should all go buy FOUND magazine on that virtue and its own goddamn awesomeness. i'm going to the princeton FOUND stop on the 21st. come with!
