it's really no secret that a lot of dramas suffer from low ratings, or at least, dramas nowadays don't reach the kind of rating that they could have achieved had they aired maybe 5-10 years ago. what's more disturbing is the fact that JE-starred dramas fail to rake in the expected viewership! i don't know what others may say, but i think tokujo kabachi's rating is low. and so is the ratings for yamanade. please don't think i'm bashing these two dramas, i'm definitely a fan, but i can't help but be disappointed by the ratings.
i have to admit, that even though sho also has a drama this season (tokujo kabachi), i looked forward more to the airing of yamato nadeshiko shichi henge. it is my favorite manga! sunako and kyohei are my favorite manga characters! and when it was announced that there will be a live action, a lot of manga fans expressed interest and excitement, too! the fact that it is a well-liked manga should have been enough to rake in the viewership, but 3 JE boys added to the attraction factor! the fans alone from the three groups (kattun, news, and kanjani8) should be enough to get high viewership ratings, but that is clearly not the case. i feel bad because i don't want yamanade to be a so-so drama with a so-so rating. i want it to be recognized as a good adaptation of the manga. i want it to be popular, if not as popular as the manga itself. but the ratings! T_T
i already said it in the title, i blame streaming sites for the low ratings. i specifically blame dramacrazy.net! i read in a kattun lj-comm post how some fans are actually proud that yamanade is the 2nd most watched drama in dramacrazy, out of the 800+ uploads there. is this really something to be proud of? i understand that a lot of fans don't really want the hassle of downloading so they just watch on streaming sites, but making the raws readily available to everyone? raws uploaded just hours after the airing? if im a japanese, then there would be not much motivation for me to watch the drama on tv, right? i'll just think that i can watch it anytime, thanks to streaming sites like dramacrazy.net. why make the effort to go home to catch my favorite drama when i can watch it anytime when i go online? there goes the drama viewership ratings.
i know a lot of international fans depend on streaming sites to watch the dramas. after all, our options are limited. maybe it's ok to upload completed dramas, i don't know, but i think uploading raws especially when the drama is still airing will definitely contribute to low viewership ratings right? there may be a lot of loopholes in my argument and my opinions, but i'm presenting this view because i don't want the dramas to suffer from low ratings anymore.
just my two cents.
