At nearly three years old Kurogane had deemed their little brood were old enough to handle flying lessons. Fai hadn't liked walking in to seeing Kurogane tossing them high into the air and watching as they awkwardly flapped their wings, but he had to admit they could at least glide from the couch to the floor now.
Kurogane had taken the day off and luckily for Fai he didn't have a mountain of files to look through or to work on any thesis papers so he was free to help Kurogane and in any case he didn't want to miss such a huge milestone. Fai had bundled each child to keep them warm since they were going out of the city today so they would have plenty of room to practice. They were just waiting on Kurogane now.
Fai sat around as Koryu sat on his lap. Chikahito on his feet playing with a stuffed toy his grandmother had given him a few months before. The others busied themselves watching TV or playing games. He only realized Kurogane was outside when he saw the kids perk up and head to the door. Shaking his head he chuckled and headed after them. When he got out he spotted Kurogane, the large dragon taking up what little yard space they had.
"You can't carry all of us." He joked as the kids scrambled over to him. They always liked climbing over their father.
"Didn't plan on carrying them on my back." The dragon explained before lowering his head and opening his jaws. Fai stared as each child, now changed as well, and climbed in between rows of sharp teeth. When Kurogane lifted his head he watched a small heads poked out of his nearly closed jaws.
"Is that safe?" He asked and Kurogane gave him a look before Kohaku was telling him to hurry while giggling. Fai smiled and climbed onto Kurogane's back before they were off and out of the city. He just hoped Kurogane didn't swallow one of their kids.
When they were far enough away, they landed on top of a cliff which overlooked a valley and to the far side the caves where Kurogane had hidden himself away. Fai slipped off the dragon and Kurogane lowered his head to let the hatchlings out.
"You're not going to do what I think you're going to do are you?" He said before calling them over when they got to close to the edge and looked over the cliff. They scooted back and hurried over to him.
"It's how I was taught."
"It's a /cliff/." He argued a little nervous to be so close to the edge.
Kurogane huffed and grabbed the nearest kid by the tail, which had been Nagisa, and tossed her over the cliff. Fai gasped and ran to the edge looking over as she dropped. Kurogane lept off after her flying around to catch her as she flapped her wings. Fai panicked. "Kurogane!"
The dragon huffed, like he would actually let his daughter be hurt. Before she was too close to the ground she corrected herself and was flying around. not very smoothly, but flying. Fai sighed in relief as Kurogane pushed her higher with his snout.
Before Fai could notice, Koryu had wriggled his tail and jumped off the ledge as well, wanting to learn too. The blonde nearly slipped trying to grab his son, but Kurogane had noticed and helped him. He eyed the others, making sure they didn't copy their brother.
He was a nervous wreck by the time it was Chikahito's turn. His youngest, who was still so small and not as strong as his siblings shied at the ledge peaking over before looking to his father. Above his brothers and sisters were flying above. Kurogane watching over them. "Come on blondie."
Fai bit his lip. "It's alright Chika-kun." He encouraged and his son stared at him before he jumped. Tumbling through the air Fai watched as Kurogane went after him just in case. Hovering Chikahito managed to correct himself, but was having trouble. Kurogane helped him up and together they went up.
Watching them he sighed. At least they were okay now, but he was going to have a word with his husband about his methods and nearly giving him a panic attack. Sitting on the grass he laughed when Sayaka swooped down and cuddled with him. Nokoru was the first to land tired and when he changed back into a toddler Fai laughed and congratulated him on his flying as the boy fell into his lap and Fai brushed fingers through his long hair. When everyone came back Fai lightly punched Kurogane's arm and the dragon only scoffed as he sat beside him.
