Warnings: fluff, but gets more mature as it goes on.
Summary: So this has been sitting on my laptop for two years and decided I should start on it again and actually try to finish, which I have no clue how exactly to go about that. ( help on that would be awesome btw) Not sure if this has been looked over or not. >.>

Night

Both lay awake in the taller of the two’s bed. Fai had found himself enjoying spending time with Kurogane even when they weren’t both elbow deep in wet sand.

“Kuro-rin should stay at my house next time.” Kurogane lay staring up at his ceiling, processing the smaller boy’s words, before turning his face to Fai’s as he processed the smaller boy’s words.

“Next time?”

“Doesn’t Kuro-bun want to?” Fai was lying on his side curled up slightly as he looked at Kurogane, even if he could barely make him out in the darkened room.

“My name’s Kurogane…and whatever…my parents will make me anyways.” He hissed out, not wanting to wake up his parents and make things worse for himself. He could practically feel the blonde smile beside him as the bed shifted, Fai moving to lie on his other side his back to Kurogane.

“Goodnight Kuro-kun.”

“’Night.”

Day’s go by.

Fai has grown tall and lean in the following years as he entered high school. He still went to the beach every chance he could get, but lately he was wondering if it was because of the sandcastles and the still fuzzy memories that were attached to them or if it has something to do with Kurogane. He sighs as he leaves school and walks past the parking lot to the bench outside to wait for his mother, after all he still hasn’t gotten his license yet and it’s better than riding the bus or walking.

“Oi, idiot.” Fai stops in mid step as he turns to the source of the voice. He sees Kurogane sitting in his own car with the window rolled down looking at him. The blonde quickly walked over to his friend.

“Kuro-min what are you doing here?”

Kurogane shrugs. “I was in town.”

Fai sees past the lie and smiles brightly, knowing that he had told Kurogane before hand that he usually waited for his mother after school.

“Is Kuro-car offering me a ride?”

“Fine, I’ll just leave your ass if you’re going to make fun of me.” Kurogane practically growled as he still sat parked. Fai walked briskly in front of the car and around before getting in. Sitting his books in the back seat and buckling, Fai looked to Kurogane and smiled.

“Thank you Kuro-pup.”

“I’m not a damn dog!”

“Are you taking me home or would you like to wander around town, seeing as how you came here?” He smiled wider at the blush that crept onto the other’s tan cheeks.

“I don’t know of any place around here.” The taller said as he pulled out of the parking lot with Fai fiddling with his stereo.

“Would Kuro-chan like to go to a matinee or maybe get something to eat? How long can you stay out?”

“Fine and however long I want, I don’t have any work or anything to do.” Kurogane flipped his signal on before cutting down a lane.

They parked at the movies, after Fai had to give Kurogane directions. Both teens stepped out and made their way to stand in line. The blonde spotted several people from school and how some of them were whispering to each other as they looked at Kurogane, who ignored them. Fai chatted idly to Kurogane as they got their tickets and food, but beforelong he finally had to quiet down as the movie started.

“The movie was good.” Fai squinted as they stepped out of the theater and into the afternoon sun.

Kurogane nodded as they walked towards his car and got in. Fai took on his role as navigator once more as he directed Kurogane towards a small restaurant that had opened recently. They took a seat at a nearby booth and ordered. As they waited Fai tried to start up a conversation with the other teen while they waited.

“So why did Kuro-tan come here?”

“I told you why.”

“Specifically then.”

“Your mom called mine and said she would be gone, something about working late and dad volunteered me to go pick you up.” Kurogane leaned back in his seat as he turned to look out the window.

“And here I thought Kuro-roo had missed me and wanted to spend time with me.” Kurogane blushed but continued to meet Fai’s gaze. The waitress came soon after as both boys sat in silence.

Fai swore mentally, he felt embarrassed by how his words had sounded. He had had thoughts about the other boy for the past few years, but when he looked to Kurogane, he knew the other would probably never talk to him again if he knew. They ate in awkward silence before they paid and left. The sun had set not long ago as they can see the sky still tinted in light grays and pinks.

“…Idiot.” Kurogane shoved his hands in his pant pockets as they walked leisurely towards the taller teen’s car.

“Kuro-kun?”

“I would’ve come anyway, even if my old man hadn’t said anything.” Both teens blushed and looked to the side as they walked around either side of the car and got in. The car ride wasn’t as bad as the restaurant, Fai had felt as if his heart would burst out of his chest, but it still was better than the awkwardness that had fallen over them earlier.

The car pulled silently up to Fai’s driveway, though the blonde wasn’t sure if his mother’s car was parked in the garage or not. The taller put his car in park as they sat silent for the moment.

“Thank you Kuro-san, I had fun. We should go out more often.” Fai unbuckled himself and placed his hand on the door handle while he looked at his friend.

“I…” Kurogane glared forward towards the garage as he tried to say something.

“What is it?”

“It’s just….” Red eyes meet Fai’s own blue eyes as the other fought with himself. “Damn it!”

“Kuro-kun?”

“Earlier when we ate, it sounded like we were dating or something and then just now it sounded like it.”

“Sorry Kuro-min, I didn’t mean-” Fai jumped in surprise as Kurogane grabbed the front of his shirt and brought him closer to the taller teen. His heart really did feel as if it was going to explode inside his chest as he stared wide eyed at Kurogane, unsure of exactly what to do, what to say.

“Are you trying to say something?” Kurogane’s eyes bore into his own as if looking for something. “Don’t lie either.”

“I like Kuro-pon.” Fai averted his gaze as he smiled weakly.

“As in you want to date?” He felt the other’s hand loosen on his shirt. Fai contemplated making a run for it, hoping he could make it to the house without dying from embarrassment.

“I guess you could say that.”

“Fine.” Fai paused and tilted his head to the side in confusion. Kurogane rolled his eyes and tightened his hold on the slender blonde. “We can….if you want.” Fai was speechless and nodded dumbly.
