Ghhh MILDLY COMPLAINING POST AHOY

I'm taking a Film and Literature class, as many of you probably know, and while I love the class, the people in that class are just...AHAHA OH WOW. It's so clear that 99% of my class only took this course because they thought we would just be sitting there watching movies/it's an easy A/you don't have to work, and most of them either have:
a) no appreciation for film
b) have NO idea how to analyze a film
c) don't CARE
d) all of the above.

While I think that one critical insight into films-- that most go to watch films to be pacified and be provided with entertainment without the emotional rollercoaster-- is completely valid, and I totally respect that (I completely agree to some extent as well), the fact that we're in a critical film and literature analysis class kind of entails that you have to be engaged.
It makes me so pissed when our Professor goes on to explain that he's brought a really true and remastered and really updated version of 'Metropolis' for our viewing experience, and all the comments that he receives afterward is "the acting was weird." What is this I don't even

We are in a film and literature class.
It is not cute to walk into class and say "wait, which movie was that again? Was that the one with the robots?"

Not only that, the fact that they make a mockery of some aspects of classical film is just...what the hell are you even doing in this class? Of course the 1935 version of 'Les Miserables' is done in a more theatrical manner than Hollywood movies of today. The acting isn't hammy, perhaps it's dated, but if you're looking for realism, pursue it in a movie that wasn't Hollywood produced, as our Professor reiterated time and time again.
Also, French nouveau was not an underground movement that was done by a few 'pretentious' art directors.
Also, PLEASE stop judging movies based on modern criteria of 'good filmmaking'. Because that's just. NOT THE WAY TO WATCH FILM.

Just...what even

I hate how I walk into class and all I hear are people saying "WHAT WAS THE DIRECTOR'S  NAME AGAIN LOL WHATEVER IT'S NOT IMPORTANT". Seriously. Take a class that you're interested in and spare the people who are actively engaged the frustration of having you make an ass out of yourself. Please.
