SO life update
I currently have an internship at the Japan Society, working on Mondays through Thursdays from 9:30 in the morning (which means that I have to wake up at 7 to catch the 8:00 train which gets me at GC at 9 and then walk to JS which takes me roughly 10~15 minutes) until 5:30 in the afternoon, which is a SOLID 8 hours of work. I get home at around 7, if I'm lucky, eat dinner, take a shower, and by then I'm so exhausted that I just. Want. To. Sleep.
But I'm having a pretty good experience with what I'm doing. I'm doing translations, proofreading, normal grunt jobs like filing, taking down personal information of people on Excel, copying/scanning. I'm most excited about being able to do things like translating and proofreading for an important organization on important subjects like transcribing interviews from A-bomb survivors. I'm really lucky that I got this internship-- despite it being unpaid, it feels like a solid job. I have my own cubicle, my own work station, my own work e-mail address, and even a work phone...it's pretty intense, though no one really has any need to call me/e-mail me.
I'm going to start encoding and hardsubbing subtitles into videos tomorrow! I'm kind of really excited to do that, despite it being a tecchie job. I wish I got to transcribe the whole interview, but someone had done most of it and it was my task to proof and polish things. But even despite that, I feel honored to be entrusted with something like that...I mean, I'm not a professional translator, I'm not majoring in it or anything, I'm still a college student, and it's a really big responsibility.
So that's cool.
Though what I dislike is the sitting in the cubicle part. I think I understand why some people hate cubicles so much...and to make it worse my cubicle came with an awful NY ANIMU FEST POSTER from 2008 with GUWWEN WAGGAN on it and I just. I don't want to be rude but I want to take this shit down yo
So yeah
TIME FOR ME TO....GET BACK TO WORK
