So the baby has reached adolsecence, and its time for that right of passage for all pets - getting "fixed". Yesterday, Mikan went to the vet, got neutered, declawed, and chipped (if anyone is curious, just ask). I noticed that Mikan's orange eyes are starting to turn green around the iris (that's the black part, right?). It looks like he's going to end up with green eyes, and not keeping the orange ones. *sobs* And I liked the orange eyes, too.

Now that the bleach_contest entry for the week is posted everywhere it needs to be, I can get to an update on the poor, sick kitten. I got a call this morning from the vet regarding the tests on his "deposit" from the other day. Good news is he just has tapeworms(!), and not Giardia, which was the big fear. Mikan is back home. It took forever to get a large enough "deposit" for them to send off to the lab. So far, tapeworm is confirmed. Giardia is suspected, but until the lab runs the tests, we won't know for sure. So...Friday, the vet thinks we'll have an answer. Buton the plus side, he's gained more than half a pound in a week ( Read more... )

He's having diarrhea and not gaining any weight. I don't know what's wrong, since he eats like a horse and doesn't seem to be dehydrated. Plays with Tenchi, and is otherwise fine. More later.

Things are still going fairly well. Having to give Mikan a twice-daily antibiotic dose for that "just in case". Tenchi seems to be starting to settle in (or at least resigned to) in regards to the foundling. Still walking away more when Mikan does something he doesn't like, but there's less "slapping down" going on ( Read more... )

Brought the kitten home. Tenchi is, of course, standoffish. At least he's not hissing and spitting at Mikan anymore. Gets up and walks away when the newcomer is too close. I think its going to work out. Mikan sure is an affectionate little thing though.

Unless something goes horribly wrong in the next 24 hours, Mikan will be coming home tomorrow evening. He's at the regular vet, mostly so I can get Tenchi to the vet in the morning for a wellness check. Make sure there's nothing hiding in HIM that might make Mikan sick ( Read more... )
