Yuletide 2015 Letter
Is it Yuletide time again already? It must be, since this is all my LJ gets used for any more. Let's dive right into the letter - Frankensteined together out of bits of previous exchange letters as it is.
General likes:
-slice of life, character studies
-pining
-angst
-fluff
-porn (some semblance of plot usually preferred, but PWP is not a problem either)
General dislikes:
-AUs/fusions
-supernatural elements in canons that don't already contain them
-graphic violence/gore
-deathfic (unless it's canon death)
-kidfic (unless there are canon kids - Playing House fic can certainly contain adorable baby-related shenanigans)
I have ships for all these fandoms, but I am a-ok with gen too; I love fics that skew close to canon and none of these are canon ships, after all.
When it comes to sex scenes I prefer m/m or het, but I'm fine with f/f if there's plot in it, though I haven't requested many female characters. I also mostly like fairly vanilla sex -- light bondage is great, anything beyond that (heavy BDSM, watersports, bloodplay, etc) not so much. Awkward sex can be entertaining but I prefer it if the characters end up enjoying themselves in the end. And hey, don't want to write sex at all, or would rather keep it vague or fade to black? That's fine too! I'm only being so specific in the hopes of avoiding something that squicks me.
I feel like browsing what I've written and bookmarked on ao3 is a pretty good indication of the kind of thing I like. But honestly, I'm REALLY not very picky. I also genuinely want every fandom I'm requesting, and they're all so small that just having more fic of them in existence will delight me. Optional details are ENTIRELY OPTIONAL - don't feel the need to use any of them if you don't want to. I want you to enjoy writing your story!
Party Down - Kyle Bradway, Roman DeBeers
I love the relationship between these two and how it gradually develops over the course of the series. They start out genuinely antagonistic, but I feel like by the end of season 2 they actually kind of like each other. But neither one wants to admit that - probably partly due to embarrassment, and partly due to fear that the other doesn't reciprocate. They're actually fairly similar in that they're covering up a lot of self-doubt and insecurity, they're just doing it in different ways.
I'd love to see them in a situation where they team up and work together for some reason. Maybe it has to do with Roman's script from the last episode (which Kyle apparently genuinely admired), or against some third-party threat. I do ship them and would love to read getting-together fic, but just grudging admissions of friendship would be awesome, too.
Playing House - Emma Crawford, Maggie Caruso, Zach Harper
I love Maggie and Emma's friendship, and I love how they're both mostly good people but sometimes have selfish and mean moments. There is no fic at all for this series, which is a shame! I'm really interested in their childhoods/teenage years, and how protective Maggie is of Zach. I feel like the show doesn't tell us nearly enough about Zach -- where does he live? Does he have a job, and what is it? (He apparently can just take off to New Mexico. What's with that?)
Throwing some random ideas out there: Charlotte-related completely sickeningly sweet fluff would be very welcome (a Baby's First Christmas story -- we didn't get to see it onscreen, and I think there's also room for a lot of wistfulness, since Maggie's parents aren't there to see her daughter's first holidays.) Zach learning to be a better babysitter (does he ever get less grossed out by baby bodily functions?)
I also have an admittedly inexplicable desire to see a scenario where Emma and Zach hook up and immediately realize it was a horrible mistake, and try to awkwardly pretend it never happened while keeping it from Maggie.
Silicon Valley - Richard Hendricks, Jared Dunn, Erlich Bachmann
Richard is my favorite character - he's an unusually realistic depiction of someone with anxiety, but he's also really smart, has a good heart, and usually manages to pull himself together once he's backed into a corner, and I think that's awesome. I love how Jared and Erlich seem to be complete opposites at first, but they're both incredibly supportive and even protective of Richard in their own ways, and they both have their own brands of confidence that Richard is completely lacking. (Jared is very mild-mannered and I think the fandom often misinterprets that and makes him a total doormat, but he's actually willing to stand up for himself when he thinks it's important, and I think it's clear he's very comfortable with who he is.)
I'm terrible at coming up with specific prompts for this series, sorry! Anything where Richard is in over his head and needs to rely on the others is great; so is any scenario where Erlich is being uncharacteristically nice or Jared is uncharacteristically assertive. Futurefic would be fine -- writing fic mid-hiatus can be kind of awkward, anyway. Or what about that time Russ Hanneman left Erlich and Richard to watch his kid for several hours? How did that go? That's definitely a scenario you could get Jared into easily enough, too.
I don't mind background Dinesh/Gilfoyle or NelsonBelson or any other pairing, but I'm not all that interested in reading about it, either.
I would absolutely love threesome porn, btw. If you are so inclined. (I don't mind if there is some recreational drug use involved either; that just fits with canon.)
The Watch (2012) - any (nominated characters: Evan Trautwig, Bob, Paul, Jamarcus)
I figure if I keep requesting fic for this movie, I'll have to get it some day... right?
So I have a little bit of a celebrity crush on Ben Stiller, which is the only reason I ever picked up this movie; it didn't look like something I'd enjoy at all, but boy, did I misjudge. Don't get me wrong, it's an incredibly stupid movie, but it has a surprising amount of heart, and Evan's actually one of my favorite characters, from anything, ever. He's so driven and cares so much (he actually reminds me a bit of Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation), even if he's sometimes misguided, and the scene where he's talking to Bob about his problems having kids is actually kind of sort of touching in a way I didn't expect from a goofy comedy about aliens invading Costco. Bob in general is kind of a sweet doofus, although the "overprotective dad" schtick can be annoying. I actually thought Bob was flirting with Evan at first and that was why he joined the neighborhood watch (the random butt-slap on their first meeting, I mean, come on), so heck, explore that if you want.
As much as I love Evan, the character that interests me the most is actually Jamarcus. I have SO MANY questions about Jamarcus. Is that his real name? Where does he live both during and after the film? Are his species monogendered or what? If they are, exactly what is he getting up to at Paul's orgies, anyway? (PS: If you are a porn writer, Paul gives you the perfect excuse to write a total PWP. I'm cool with xenophilia in this case too!) What's Jamarcus doing post-movie - does he have a job? Is the rest of the neighborhood watch helping him fit in and keep himself a secret? Does he ever get homesick? Is he physically transformed into a human or is it some kind of disguise? His blood is still green, after all. Can he turn back into his alien self and win all the Best Costume awards at every Halloween party ever? (Yes, this is recycled from my Trick or Treat prompt. I don't mind Halloween fic for Christmas, either.)
And have the aliens really given up on invading Earth? And what were they taking people's skin for, anyway?
