Night on Fic Mountain 2015!

Mar 31, 2015 20:41

My poor neglected LJ -- it's nothing but fic exchange letters. Ah well. Here we go~

This is my second Night on Fic Mountain. I'm excited to participate again and excited about whatever you write for me! I'm requesting really tiny fandoms this year and the mere existence of fic for any of them will delight me.

In general my favorite fics tend to be either short character studies or porn -- or some combination of the two. I like anything from angst to fluff to humor, but I dislike graphic violence and outright horror. In general I'd rather read a fic exploring characters' relationships and emotions or a single scenario than any lengthy complicated epics. I'm not generally a fan of crossovers, but for this particular exchange if you want to write a ridiculous crossover between any of the things I requested, I wouldn't mind! I don't like drastic AUs, either, but thoughtful canon divergence can be wonderful.

When it comes to sex scenes I like m/m, m/f, or m/m/f threesomes (I have a couple of those in my prompts.) I like fairly vanilla sex scenes mostly -- light bondage is great, anything involving pain or body fluids not typically associated with sex, not so much. I'm fine with super graphic PWPs, if that's where your inclinations take you, but feel free to fade to black or not write any sex at all if you prefer!

I feel like browsing what I've written and bookmarked on ao3 is a pretty good indication of the kind of thing I like. But honestly, I'm REALLY not very picky. Optional details are ENTIRELY OPTIONAL - don't feel the need to use any of them if you don't want to. If you're having fun writing it, it'll be more fun to read!

On to the prompts! Yes, a couple of these are copy-pasted from previous exchanges. I still want them, so I'm still requesting them.

Around the World in 80 Days (2004) - Any (Phileas Fogg, Lau Xing/Passepartout, Monique La Roche)
This movie is silly but adorable, and I love all three characters and their relationships. I was dismayed that there is no fic for them at all, even though they have such an obvious ot3 setup! (I love Phileas/Monique too, though.) Any fic at all would be wonderful, but some general ideas:
-Does Passepartout stay in England? If so, does he get homesick? If not, does he ever miss Phileas and Monique, or do they ever visit China?
-Does Phileas actually like being in charge of the science academy? He's been a loner for so long, that might be quite an adjustment.
-There are some blanks in the narrative that could be fun to fill in -- side adventures. The most obvious is, how did Passepartout end up lost in the desert with a deer skull on his head, anyway? (...and what the heck were the Wright Brothers doing there to find him... they're from Ohio. This movie did not much care about historical accuracy; research very much not required. ...Phileas/Wilbur Wright crackfic is a thing I have considered.)
-Porn! Fluffy fun porn preferred. Phileas sure does get hung up on the crossdressing thing -- bringing that into play is optional. I am pretty firmly convinced Monique has a lot more sexual experience than he does.

By the way, if you matched on me because of Night at the Museum, and you haven't seen this movie, I really recommend it.

Night at the Museum - Any (Larry Daley, Nick Daley, Ahkmenrah, Jedediah, Octavius, Tilly)
I maybe went a little overboard on the character nominations, there. I love these movies, especially the third one, and have been really frustrated that fandom keeps throwing high school AUs and soulbonding at me, when those are both things I do not care for. I really like every character in the series (I just nominated some of my favorites), but I'm so fascinated by the nature of the tablet and what it does that I just can't get into AUs at all. Anything exploring that, and how the characters feel about it, would be awesome, but some more specific prompts:
-Larry and Nick post-3rd movie. I really love how their relationship played out in Secret of the Tomb; does Nick go to Ibiza after all? Does he get homesick? How hard is it for Larry, who's basically alone? Does Nick ever visit the London museum? (Ibiza is a lot closer to London than it is New York, after all.)
-I love Tilly! How crazy were her first few nights after the tablet came to London? She probably had some help from Ahkmenrah (and family), at least. How long did it take for her to figure out what Laaa actually was?
-I ship Jed/Octavius pretty hard. (Oh, this might be a good time to mention that I really do not subscribe to fanon about them; I don't think they were ever intended to be any particular historical figures, and Octavius especially only ever refers to himself as a general, not an emperor.) I could read endless "getting together" fic about them, but I'd read fic where Octavius' feelings are one-sided and they have to deal with the awkwardness of still being friends once they come to light, too -- I don't think I've ever seen anyone write that before. I definitely don't think they had a relationship prior to the third movie, but there's definitely opportunity afterward.
-Ahkmenrah just in general. He managed to not go completely insane despite being locked in a box screaming every night for 50 years; that's impressive. Is getting his family back as wonderful as he'd hoped? Does he ever feel bad about the tablet's move to London? Does he miss New York at all? And what's his relationship with Tilly and Lancelot like? (I could probably get behind Ahk/Lancelot, btw. I think I could ship just about anything in this series. Well, not Larry/Nick -- rather not go there, thanks.)

Tropic Thunder - Any (Tugg Speedman, Rick Peck, Kirk Lazarus, Alpa Chino, Kevin Sandusky)
I'd prefer something Tugg-centric, because darn it if I didn't end up strangely attached to him by the end of the movie. I really like Tugg and Kirk's friendship; they're both struggling with identity crises over the course of the whole movie, and they definitely seem to have gotten close by the end. But I also really like Tugg and Rick, and how devoted Rick is (well, okay, devotion that is temporarily tested by the allure of a private plane, but still, it wins through in the end.) So, yeah, anything friendship-y or regular ship-y with either of those pairings would be fantastic - but I also nominated Alpa, because Alpa is awesome, and I love that he and Lance Bass are apparently a happy couple at the end. But what did coming out do to his career? Are the guys all still friends, and were they all supportive? If Tugg were to end up in a relationship with Kirk or Rick (...or both. I am okay with that, too) it seems like he'd ask Alpa for advice. And I threw Kevin in there because he's an adorable nerd and has a little bit of a hero-worship thing going on with Kirk that could be interesting.

For a more concrete jumping-off point, maybe something involving tabloid rumors that turn out to either be true or not. Or maybe one of the characters has a social media scandal (an offensive-seeming tweet, a questionable snapchat) and has to deal with the fallout.

The Watch - Any (Evan, Bob, Jamarcus, Paul)
As you may have already gathered by looking at my nominations list, I really really like Ben Stiller. So I started watching everything he's ever been in that I could get my hands on, which is the only reason I ever picked up The Watch; it didn't seem like something I'd like at all. Then I actually watched it, annnnnnd I sorta love it a little bit. Don't get me wrong, it's an incredibly stupid movie, but it has a surprising amount of heart, and Evan's actually one of my favorite characters, from anything, ever. He's so driven and cares so much (he actually reminds me a bit of Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation), even if he's sometimes misguided, and the scene where he's talking to Bob about his problems having kids is actually kind of sort of touching in a way I didn't expect from a goofy comedy about aliens invading Costco. Bob in general is kind of a sweet doofus, although he has that "overprotective dad" schtick going on that can be annoying. (also his daughter was Audrey Hart in True Detective which is unrelated but amuses me.) I actually thought Bob was flirting with Evan at first and that was why he joined the neighborhood watch (the random butt-slap on their first meeting, I mean, come on), so heck, explore that if you want.

As much as I love Evan, the character that interests me the most is actually Jamarcus. I have SO MANY questions about Jamarcus. Is that his real name? Where does he live both during and after the film? Are his species monogendered or what? If they are, exactly what is he getting up to at Paul's orgies, anyway? (PS: If you are a porn writer, Paul gives you the perfect excuse to write a total PWP. I'm cool with xenophilia in this case too!) What's Jamarcus doing post-movie - does he have a job? Is the rest of the neighborhood watch helping him fit in and keep himself a secret? Does he ever get homesick?

(And what the heck were the aliens stealing skin for, anyway? That's never actually addressed.)

Zoolander - Any (Derek Zoolander, Hansel, Matilda Jeffries)
Such an ot3. I'm slightly afraid that Zoolander 2 is going to joss my polyamory headcanon. My favorite scene in the entire movie is when Derek and Hansel switch instantly from enemies to BFFs after awkwardly airing their feelings, while Matilda just gets confused. All three of them are so cute together. I don't really have any concrete plot prompts except that I'd love to see something post-movie where they're all in a relationship together. Maybe something delving a little deeper into Derek founding his Center For Kids Who Can't Read Good and how Hansel comes to be involved.
