[re-written FTW!]
I've got a good one.
My first trial case. I am young, green, and smelling of fresh paint standing up with my knees shaking in front of Judge Robert Kane.
Judge Kane has been in Gotham City since the forties.. It's like he practically built the damn city. I'm second chair to Coulson and Piques's (former) golden boy Christopher Nolan.
Nolan is..was....brilliant. Think Gerry Spencer except nearly not as old. He got me my job, it was an honor to work with him. He will be sadly missed, but that's what happens when you cross Maroni, another reason to get the bastard
I think to full understand the magnitude of what I did you need to see the trial transcripts:
The Court: Defense may cross examine.
Mr. Nolan: Your honor? Defense requests permission to have second chair conduct cross?
The court: Second Chair?
Mr. Burton: Your honor, may we approach?
[Conference held off the record]
The Court: Back on the record, in the matter of Bale versus the City of Gotham city, Mr. Bale is present with his council Mrrs Nolan and Dent. The people are represented by Mr. Burton of the District Attorney's office. We have a motion to allow Mr. Dent, current second chair to conduct cross examination of Officer Eckhart in the matter.
Mr. Burton: Prosecution continues to state objection.
The Court: Your objection is sustained Mr. Burton. Mr. Dent, this is not a game, be aware of that.
Mr. Dent: I am your honor.
The court: Mr. Nolan, I suggest you control your client.
The Court: Bailiff, bring up the witness.
Bailiff: Officer Eckhart, do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help you god?
Officer Eckhart: I do your honor.
Mr. Dent: Officer Eckhart, can you tell us precisely where you were the night of November the 23rd?
Officer Eckhart: Yes, I was on patrol at the corner of Fifth and Robinson.
Mr. Dent: Are you a motorcycle police officer?
Officer Eckhart: No sir. I'm a bike cop.
Mr. Dent: [Laughter] A bike cop? Oh my god are you kidding me? One of those guys that ride around on the mountain bikes?
I was held in contempt (obviously) first and last citation I'm proud to stay. I also earned the emity of the downtown bike patrol for a good four years before Eckhart actually got promoted. I did get an opportunity to argue again, but I made sure to do three things before hand-three things I do before every trial:
Double check all my facts.
Make sure that I prep my second chair.
......Laugh at whatever I need to laugh at before I get into the courtroom.
