[Smock dusted with blood and splashes of unidentifiable ingredients, Mihaila finally got her first break since starting work for Captain Redd. She trudges up the stairs to the open air of deck one, then sighs and stretches, complaining loudly as she sees she has an audience.]
Of course you want to see it. That mechanic still whines about wanting to see his from time to time.
[Her gaze is hard as she looks over the ocean, eyes narrowing and mouth twisting... When she looks back to Mihaila, her eyes soften and her tone gentles.]
He's incredibly skilled. His people's technology level rivals the tech-level of my own homeworld. Furthermore he's a hard worker and he obeys orders well.
[Her eyes catch the shaking and the Stewardess reaches out to take Mihaila's hand. She pulls a handkerchief from her pocket and begins to clean the other woman's hand.]
First Mate Kage... hn. He had a love-affair with a passenger, and when that passenger was lost he had a breakdown, killed some passengers, killed himself, and now he's in Carnival until he calms down.
[Mihaila is used to servants cleaning and tending to her, but this was different. No one here was from her clan or the royal family, but the crew were at least partly on an equal. They had something in common at least.]
Yes. The only reason he's being given this time is because we've got a guarantee from the traitor that we've at least nine days, possibly as many as fifteen, without having to worry about pirate attacks.
[She finishes cleaning Mihaila's hand, then flicks the handkerchief to the side. It instantly becomes white and clean again. She folds it crisply.]
Aa~h, I am so tired! These people eat like pigs!

[The Stewardess tilts her head, looking at Mihaila over the top of her sunglasses.]
Selfishly, I'm glad you're working so hard. I haven't had a break like this in months.
Reply
Ya well, at least someone appreciates it. I don't know how you coped.
[She grins at the Stewardess.]
You been working for him long?
Reply
Since the very first voyage, yes.

[Mihaila closes her eyes.]
You ever have regrets, you know?
Reply
[Her hands tighten on the railing.]
Do you mean do I regret working for Redd or what lead me to work for the great man?
Reply
[She chews her lip thoughtfully for a while, then ducks her head down, fists clenching and unclenching nervously.]
He ever let you ... see it? I just wanna see it ...

Eventually the cravings will ease.

The mechanic?
[That vulnerability is gone, and the callous mask is slipped back on.]
He is amusing.

[Smirk.]
He is amusing.

He is good, ya? Good to keep the ship running.
[Holding her hand up, she grimaces and picks at some dried blood stuck to the back of her hand, ignoring the way it shakes.]
Where is the First Mate? I haven't met him yet.

Ai ... and crew is so short-staffed as it is.

That is not very reassuring! And these passengers are so rowdy.
[Examining her now clean hand, she smiles.]
Good as new.
Reply
[The Stewardess looks with her towards the horizon.]
Swirling chaos.
