Recs!

There have been so many good fests going on lately that I thought I'd post some recs!

From Remus/Sirius Games

Title: Oh, We Lost Magic
Word Count: ~4000
Rating: PG-13
Summary: The year is 1985 and Sirius, Remus, James and Lily are working as EMTs in muggle London, living seemingly normal lives...except there's really an awful lot of weird things going on.
Why you should read it: Like the summary says, the characters are all working as Muggle EMTs but these bits of the magical world keep creeping into their lives. And no one knows quite what’s going on because they only remember bits and pieces of the magical world. It’s such a great concept and is executed well. There’s perfect, witty dialogue as well.

Title: Leave the Children Behind
Word Count: ~49K
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is learn to let go of what you were, and fall in love with what you are. Remus, Sirius, and a series of choices.
Why you should read it:  Oh my God, this fic was glorious. It begins right after the first war and deals a lot with Remus’s feelings while Sirius is in Azkaban. Then it slowly morphs into this incredible “Lie Low At Lupin’s” fic. The dialogue alternates between playful wittiness and heartbreaking sincerity. The writing is lush and beautiful. The fic is the sort of slow building long fic that I see less and less often in this fandom and for this pairing in particular. It’s an incredible love story that stretches out over a span of years.

Title: We Might Fall
Word Count: ~7100
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Behind the veil, Sirius unwrites his life, one electric light at a time.
Why you should read it: This is an afterlife fic and such a good one. Sirius tries to rewrite his life to make it so the Potters never died and he ends up changing a lot of other things and it’s so heartbreaking.  So it’s sort of like an afterlife fic combined with an AU where Sirius is sorted into Slytherin. And it’s awesome.

Title: Between the Moon and the Stars
Word Count: ~3000
Rating: M
Summary: The summer before their sixth year, and everything changes and stays the same.
Why you should read it: This fic is from a happy summer in the characters’ lives. The writing is absolutely amazing - lavish, descriptive, and poignant. Even though the fic is mostly made up of happy moments, there’s this undercurrent of sadness to it - it’s as if it somehow hints at things to come.

Title: Within White Space
Word Count: ~8900
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Non-magic AU. Remus spends his all his lunch breaks the same way: he sits at the university cafe, orders the cheapest thing on the menu, and stares at Sirius. Getting a good long, look at Sirius (and fantasizing about said look) is all Remus expects from Sirius. But Sirius has never been one for fulfilling expectations.
Why you should read it: Okay, so I normally don’t like Non-Magic AUs very much. But this one was just so good. The author made a lot of good choices in regards to characterization like choosing to give Remus a disability and making him think that someone like Sirius could never fall for someone like him. And of course James and Sirius are slightly obnoxious rich guys. This fic was the perfect counterpart to canon.

Title: The Psychopomp
Word Count: Art
Rating: G
Summary: The world collapses. You hold it in.
Why you should read it: This is a comic with beautiful art work (Remus’s hair alone fascinates me). It’s about a Muggle Remus dreaming of the magical world. The Muggle parts are in black and white, but color slowly bleeds into the magical parts in a great way. The story really sets my imagination to spinning.

From Minerva Fest

Title: Enough
Word Count: Art
Rating: PG
Summary: Sometimes direct action is in order. Minerva steps in.
Why you should read it: This is art of Minerva standing up to the Carrows, protecting Neville. The artwork is absolutely beautiful (Minerva’s robes and the other students in the background are particular favorites of mine). But what really gives the picture its power is the expressions on the characters’ faces. Minerva and Neville both look so fierce and determined which is just as it should be.

Title: Enchanted Evening
Word Count: Art
Rating: G
Summary: Two friends enjoy an evening together.
Why you should read it: Minerva and Horace Slughorn dancing together. There is just so much attention to detail in this piece of art. You can make out the pattern on Horace’s vest, on Minerva’s wrap, and on Horace’s shoes. I also love the choice of characters and the fact that most people wouldn’t have thought to put these two together in a work of art. Also, there are fairies and they are awesome!

From HP-Silencio

Title: A Fejedelem
Pairing Dumbledore/Grindelwald
Word Count: ~1000
Rating: PG-13
Summary: There is the line between them, the one Albus cannot cross and the one Gellert does not see.
Why you should read it: This fic is about Albus visiting Gellert in prison, but it also goes backwards in time so we get to see them as young men. It does a great job at showing how Albus was able to fall in love with Gellert and how much he regrets that now. And the writing is just lovely.

From Harry/Draco Fan Fair

Title: The Boy and the Sleeping Prince
Word Count: ~25K
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Harry is miserable and tired of being an Auror, coasting through life until he’s forced to make some changes. Spurred on by his passion for drawing and working with best-selling author Draco Malfoy, Harry develops a charm which gives children a magical, interactive reading experience. But when it’s time to test the spell, the two men find themselves trapped in a nightmarish fairy tale world. Can they escape unscathed, or is Draco right in his assertions that there is no such thing as a happily ever after?
Why you should read it: This fic was so well done. Harry and Draco work together to write a children’s book and they eventually end up getting sucked into the book. The concept is fun, but what really draws me to this fic is the characterization. Harry is an artist who wants to do something with his life other than by an Auror. Draco is very smooth and confident as a successful writer. And of course the two of them get on each other’s nerves badly. There are also several absolutely incredible drawings that go along with this fic.
