Character Information

General
Canon Source: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Canon Format: Anime
Character's Name: Misato Katsuragi
Character's Age: 29
Conditional: If your character is 13 years of age or under, please clarify how they will be played.

What form will your character's NV take? An extremely high tech cell phone (that she will be struggling with for a
little bit, since all the phones in NGE are, like, 80's model).

Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Misato has no supernatural abilities. However, as field commander and operations director for NERV, Misato is a tactical genius (particularly fond of bold and inventive strategies that she executes with confidence and flair) with a natural affinity for leadership. She's good at taking orders, but better at giving them, but she's a soldier, first and foremost, and respects her superiors, even if she often voices her disagreement with their decisions. She's a near-perfect shot with short-range firearms and can handle herself fairly well in hand to hand combat. As NERV is a UN-funded organization with major operations in both Germany and the US, Misato can speak both German and English fluently, as well as her native Japanese.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? Misato will be granted the ability of minor probability manipulation. This will basically ensure that almost any tactical situation she commands will succeed in some way, so long as the person she's up against makes probable decisions and isn't irrational- if she went against the Joker, for example, her plans would likely fail, because that would imply he makes probable decisions. This isn't 100% foolproof and will be dormant for a good portion of her time in SP.
Weapons: A Glock handgun.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: Born in 1985, Misato was a child of already fractured home, given her father was an important research scientist who was rarely at home. Her mother, determined to keep the family together, worked herself to the bone to keep her husband placated and often forced Misato to "be a good girl" as to not bother either of her parents. Misato would later report under psych analysis that she hated her father and she hated "being a good girl," but she bowed to her mother's wishes anyway.

When she was fourteen, her father took both her and her mother to Antarctica with him where he and his team went to discover a GeoFront structure near the coast. While there, they also discovered Adam, the First Angel (then known simply as the Giant of Light) and while Dr. Katsuragi obsessed over the new discovery, his wife threatened to take Misato back to Japan and file for divorce (Misato, reportedly, laughed when she heard the news). Before they could leave, however, Adam went berserk and unleashed what would be known as Second Impact (an event that destroyed almost half the world). As his last dying act, Dr. Katsuragi placed Misato in a rescue capsule and sealed it before dying. When Misato woke up hours later, her capsule was floating in the ocean, the entire continent having been submerged under water after the event.

Misato was recovered by the rescue team, the only survivor of the event, and spent two years in a Japanese mental institution, having become mute from the trauma. She eventually recovered enough to be discharged, although she still bore a scar from the event- a long jagged vertical mark that extends from mid-chest to between her breasts. She eventually attended college where she became a completely different person from what people would expect from her- talking almost constantly, being cheerful, and a little bit wild and crazy, possibly as a complete smack to the face of her "good girl" demeanor she'd been forced to take under her mother and father's scrutiny. She, however, would adamantly refuse to discuss anything related to her trauma during Second Impact. During college, she met Ritsuko Akagi, who she "adopted" as her best friend, despite the two women's severe differences. They developed a decent, although tense, relationship. It was also during college that Misato met Ryoji Kaji, her longtime boyfriend, whom she reportedly spent a week straight having sex with.

After college, Misato and Kaji both joined Gehern (a UN-funded organization that would eventually become known as NERV) and moved to Germany where they began to work on the Eva Project (a project dedicated to fighting the angels), working specifically with the designated Second Child Asuka Langley Sorhyuu. It was here, she eventually broke up with Kaji, claiming he was too much like her father, and she spent some time between locations, eventually returning to Tokyo-3, Japan in 2015 to work at NERV headquarters, located in an underground GeoFront beneath the city, as their field commander and operations director. She'd only been in Japan for less than a few weeks before chaos began, starting with the severe injury of First Child Rei Ayanami in the activation of her Evangelion Unit, after it went berserk. Not long after, the second angel attacked (the first since Adam)- on the same day that she was meant to pick up the designated Third Child Shinj Ikari, the son of Commander Gendo Ikari, one of the operational heads of NERV and another candidate to pilot an Eva. After a stressful first meeting, involving the detonation of N2 mine that nearly destroyed Misato's car, she developed a sort of catty relationship with Shinji and insisted that he come stay with her, rather than live in the crappy housing that NERV would provide him alone. Eventually, her apartment would also become home to Asuka, upon the German girl's arrival in Tokyo-3 to pilot her Evangelion in the war against the angels.

Of course, along with Asuka, came Kaji, who became a source of constant stress in Misato's life as he casually tried to rekindle a relationship that she desperately wanted to avoid rekindling after eight years apart, especially in the middle of a war, but couldn't resist entirely. Eventually, Kaji became her liason, after he revealed that he was working for the Japanese government to uncover what NERV and SEELE's true endgame was and that she was being kept in the dark. Unfortunately, after finally giving Misato all the details she requested, he was assassinated on his last message, prompting Misato to become more proactive in uncovering the truth for herself, assisted by Hyuuga, her friend and one of NERV's operational tech supervisors.

Meanwhile, Misato proved herself to be a rather incompetent maternal presence in Shinji's life, despite how hard she tried, which led to increasing tensions between the two over the course of the war. Despite how protective and caring she was (even hugging him and sobbing when she found out he wasn't dead after an angel attack), she never could manage to get close to him and he could never manage to get close to her, due to mutual personality issues. By the time, the series ends, they're almost completely isolated from one another, emotionally, especially after the breach of NERV HQ by the 17th Angel. Misato feels, by that point, that Shinji has no reason to trust her.

After that attack, SEELE invaded NERV with the intent to execute all personnel as the first stage of the Human Instrumentality Project. Misato almost single-handedly led the rebellion against them, all while trying to get Shinji to his Evangelion in order to stop them.

Unfortunately, the Pull got her first.
Point in Canon: End of Evangelion: During the SEELE invasion, ust after leaving the command center in NERV HQ to track
down Shinji and get him to his Eva.
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: N/A

Character Personality: At first glance, Misato is a wild, flirtatious, irresponsible, immature, lazy party girl- the
kind of person who constantly wakes up with a hangover and demands beer for breakfast and who eats frozen dinners, because
she can't cook to save her life (to the point where she actually can't even make frozen dinners properly). She's snarky, tempermental, and prone to having fits of anger that can quickly spiral into serene calm at the drop of a hat, depending on whether the person she's arguing with keeps pushing her buttons or backs down. She's aggressive in almost everything she does, all while still keeping a nonchalant "c'est la vie" type attitude- this contradiction is somehow married due to her military training and her general nonchalant attitude. While she's quick to anger and frustration in some situations (and often prone to kicking things and throwing hissy fits when she's in private or around people who already know about her temper), she doesn't stress easily in public, although when she is stressed and the situation is chaotic beyond near repair, she smokes.

Her confidence and bold attitude make her a competent tactician. She's also generally calm in tense situations- at one point she drives Shinji out of an angel attack with both skill and ease, nonplussed by the whole thing and only spazzes out when she realizes that a BOMB WILL GO OFF NEAR WHERE THEY WERE PARKED, and even afterwards, she just pushes her car back over and goes along with her mission, her only real concerns being that her dress and car were ruined. Despite being respectful of her superiors, she has no problem arguing with them when she disagrees with a decision, but will back down when it's clear that her point will get her nowhere. Even in her own life outside work, she sometimes finds it hard to shut off her tactical brain, even remarking to Shinji that "nothing draws more attention to yourself than evasive action" when he told her there was nothing wrong with him. In general, she's sassy, overconfident, and usually always gets her way, one way or another, but when her overconfidence gets her in trouble, she's fully capable of shouldering the blame and taking responsibility for her actions. While she used to be a complete optimist, her outlook has changed, thanks to recent betrayals by friends and employers and while not a complete cynic, she still maintains a certain cynical air about her.

She has little patience for whining or passive-aggressiveness and is the kind of person who can be both simultaneously sympathetic and prone to shouting "SUCK IT UP AND DEAL." And when her orders are disrespected, she becomes a highly mature person, prone to chewing out the people who disrespect and disobey her. She's an army general in the field and a careless big sister when not, so the two sides of her personality tend to be very at odds and make for awkward relationships. She won't hesitate to be unsympathetic to someone she doesn't believe deserves her sympathy and nothing seems to tick her off more than whining to the point where it seems like someone's vying for her sympathy. She doesn't throw her own issues around and will not tolerate someone making excuses for themselves by throwing theirs around.

While a moral individual (at one point, while undertaking a dangerous mission, she explains that she has to do to it, because "her conscience won't let her not," she does have many vices. She has no problem throwing her rank and status around to get what she wants, to the point of even stealing and sees absolutely no problem with it and often flirts shamelessly (and teasingly) with underage boys (and even Frenches one and promises him "the rest" later). She's a highly dependent person, finding herself constantly in need of stabilizing and grounding influences and while she tries to be a mother to her charges, the fact that she can barely take care of herself, much less another person, in domestic situations, she often fails at it, but she tries her hardest and sometimes she actually manages to get it right. She's professional and capable in combat, but outside of it, she appears to be completely out of her element and supplements her own fail by overcompensating with an eager and overzealous lust for life and life's little pleasures like beer (she drinks one every morning for breakfast) and sex (she once spent one week in college doing nothing but having sex with her boyfriend). She has no qualms about asserting her femininity and often draws attention to her, erm, assets with no shame, whatsoever, and if she catches someone checking her out, she's more willing to wink and show off than she is to get angry. She loves attention and lavishes in it to the point of seeming arrogant.

She's violently protective of the people she cares about, becoming something of a mama bear in tough situations (she once slapped and then nearly strangled her best friend, because Ritsuko implied that saving Shinji wasn't a top priority) and while she has a certain degree of tough love, she worries extensively about her charges. She has a much more emotional outlook on things than most people in NERV and could be considered one of the hearts of the organization- for example, she claimed, at first, that she only saw Shinji as a tool and then immediately felt bad for the assumption. While maternal stops at combat and she won't baby anyone in a bad situation, this doesn't stop her from being worried to death every time she has to watch one of her charges get hurt.

Dig deeper into her psyche and Misato is broken. She lives life lightly as to avoid the possibility of anyone reaching her. She tries to keep people at a distance, even when she's practically in their face, because she can't bear the idea of tearing herself open and to admit her faults and fears, she'd have to be falling down drunk or desperate. Her relationships are almost always purely surface- friends are friends, not confidantes. Lovers are lovers, but never anything more than that. She can't stand the thought that everyone leaves her, so she dances around being too close, so as to lessen the hurt when the inevitable comes. However, she also can't stand being alone or sleeping alone, for that matter, and often seeks out ways to dirty herself and comfort herself at the same time. To that end, she also takes advantage of men to soothe the ache in her soul for a little while.

The two halves of her personality- the slovenly, immature woman and the capable, domineering captain- are never at odds with each other, but hint at deeply rooted psychological issues. Her relationship with Kaji was so tense, because he reminded her of her father, and thus had to push him away when he got too close, because while she loved her father deeply and he died to save her, she also hated him intensely, because he was always away and she lives in constant fear of the doubt and insecurity her mixed feelings about her father bring her. In fact, she became devoted to killing the angels and working for NERV, because she feels she absolutely has to avenge her father and thus free herself from the stranglehold he's had over her for the past fifteen years since his death and bury all of her emotions. She has been known to put people in danger because of her personal hatred- at one point, during a dangerous angel attack, she concocts a scenario that could prove dangerous to the Eva pilots (including her charges- Shinji and Asuka), but goes through with it anyway, against Ritsuko's orders, even though she gave the pilots the opportunity to opt out (during this entire scenario she was extremely cheerful, despite explaining that the odds of success were unreasonably low and even promised the kids a steak dinner if they succeeded).

She knows she's childish and a coward, who prefers to run away, rather than face things, and doesn't like admitting it, because she's so ashamed of herself and how pathetic she is, but she keeps making the same mistakes over and over again, without ever trying to correct herself, thus spinning herself into "cycles of hollow joy and vicious self-hatred," although she admits that every time she made those mistakes, she learned a little something new about herself, so she's capable of growth, even if it's a slow an ongoing process and she punishes herself more than she seeks help. She has an inner desire to see herself ruined, to tear herself open and destroy her reputation and everything she is, because it's such a facsimile that she hardly knows where the facades begin and she ends- all she knows is that she's tired of pretending to be pure and noble. She hasn't quite had the opportunity to heal herself, because her work environment isn't conductive to a healthy mental state.
Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A
Character Plans: Misato is more likely to get involved in the actual game plot than Gabriel and I really wanted a character who would be willing to try to figure things out, get actively involved in one of the companies, and work with people for a common goal, as opposed to just being a troll. She'll likely join SERO, despite them being shady, with the intention of using her credentials from her former job in a research lab to get her a good position, and then try to suss out what they're doing, because... Well, Kaji left a profound effect on her and she's all spychans now.

Writing Samples

First Person Sample [When the feed clicks on, it's to Misato's IN CHARGE face. She's standing somewhere
where there seems to be a lot of dirt and rubble and smoke. An explosion or something just occurred]

You guys sure know how to give a girl a warm welcome. I haven't even had time to catch my breath yet. [Slightly coy, but
with an air of dangerouness] Does this happen all the time or is it just me?

Look. I know have no authority in this place and I just got here, so I don't have a reputation, but I've seen this kind of thing before. If people believe that this wasn't just an accident, then the last thing we need are vigilantes panicking and trying to take matters into their own hands. It will only end in witch hunts and chaos and that's probably exactly what the person behind all this had in mind. If we run scared, then we're just fueling the fire. Our top priority should be finding out the cause before anyone starts pointing fingers.

Now. Who do I talk to about getting on an investigation team?

Third Person Sample Kaji had left her with a heavy burden and she wished she could hate him for it. She found lies everywhere she looked and rather than wait and sell her soul over to an organization like she did Gehern and NERV before she found out the truth about them, she automatically went into SERO suspicious. Not that you could tell that by looking at her- she was the portrait of professional as she sat in the interview chair with her ankles crossed and her hands in her lap. In the back of her mind, she could feel the disgust rising him. Stop being such a good girl.

Well, in a way she wasn't being a good girl. She was agreeing to work with a company just so she could spy on them. That worked out so well for Kaji, didn't it? It wasn't like anyone stayed dead around here and she probably wasn't worth much to people like SERO- not in a place where everyone had flashy abilities and all she had was tactical training and some on-the-fly espionage experience.

If she had to be stuck here, she'd make a difference. If that meant doing things she hated for awhile, then it would be no different than any other moment in her life. That was how it worked, honestly. She faked it all with a smile and brash confidence and then hated herself when she got home. Right now, she'd smile and talk about her experiences in research with Gehern, completely omit her military background, and pass herself off as a friendly, cheerful research assistant, eager for a job, and prepared for anything.

When she left, she shed the fancy earrings she'd bought, put on more sensible shoes, and hit the bar with only one thing on her mind. This could be a new start, so why is it just the same old thing in a new package?
