I'm honestly not sure how I feel about it. Not outraged though...maybe underwhelmed? I'm curious what you would've rather seen them do with the finale (not being an ahole just honestly curious for your perspective). I was never sold on Barney/Robin...I think it was the whole "love of a good woman changing a man" that didn't sit well with me. I liked Barney for who he was, and it felt realistic where they went with him. Things not working with Robin, a consequence finally catching up with him...

And I guess friends can grow apart when lie gets crazy? Idk that was a little depressing but like I said idk...I am curious though to know what exactly people didn't like about the finale.

I am so disappointed, I can't actually ever remember having been this disappointed by any television show ever. And honestly, I don't really ship Barney/Robin at all, not since, maybe for a while when they slept together first, but never really after that, so this is definitely not about shipping for me, personally. What I find most galling is that the show bailed on its own central conceit; that they somehow turned the clock back on nine years of character development just to have a cheap GOTCHA pot-shot at the fan base.

I genuinely don't deny the creators their story; but this was the most badly planned, badly executed thing I've ever seen (and apparently it's been in the works since the second season.) It was the creators sticking to a storyline that they once had in mind all that time ago, while the characters literally outgrew it. If they wanted to tell the Ted/Robin story, they COULD have. But an entire season centered around Barney and Robin's wedding ending with them divorced about three minutes later? It's just really poor ( ... )

It's not that I liked it...it kinda left me with nothing? Which sucks after being a fan of the show for YEARS, but not that disappointing because I haven't been nearly as into the show as I used to be. I could not agree more with your idea about the finale being what they did the entire last (few) seasons. That would have made it entirely more satisfying for me.

And just to clarify it's not about shipping with me either...I'm not a B/R or T/R shipper (B/L!).

I can imagine; I'm nowhere near as emotionally invested as I once was, but this finale just ruined so much for me that now the entire series, if I ever decide to rewatch, will be tainted by knowing how much of it is going to be retconned. There is NOTHING to suggest that Ted and Robin are now better for each other than they once were, so to make that the finale (at the expense of SO MANY EPISODES based just around these characters moving on) you've to give us a solid base, which they did not even attempt to do. Like I read somewhere, I don't even think my expectations were too high, I think the writers genuinely failed.

BARNEY/LILY IS TOTALLY MY SHIP TOO OFC. I've always maintained that :D

.....once again your ship is my ship ahaha. XD (this always amuses me) I definitely preferred Barney/Lily from what I did see.

Hahaha, A++++ shipping tastes you have imo :P I totally shipped them and have since forever, they're so great together! And to think that the three people who mentioned ships on her all apparently ship Barney/Lily, unexpected and so great!

That Sepinwall review was perfect in that they dissected WHY the finale was so disappointing. I'm side-eyeing THE A.V. Club for giving it a B+.

Oh, I read that A.V. Club review and I'm def side-eyeing that grade too. All said and done, leaving aside the insanity and awfulness of regression, it wasn't even a decent episode on its own. :s
