[ History ] :
Link to fan wiki. [ Personality ] :
Sam is a scientist and an Air Force officer. She approaches problems with logic and reason and can relate to other scientists more than other military officials at times. While she usually would not hesitate to follow orders from her commanding officer, if she has qualms about the orders Sam is willing to question them. Sometimes the science can distract her from other issues at hand. When the Stargate connected to a planet that was near a black hole her first thoughts were about witnessing an event that previous laws of physics said should not happen rather than to the people trapped on the planet.
She is good at solving problems under pressure and is very determined to always find the answers to any problem she faces. Because of her position on the first Stargate team exploring new planets she is good at adapting to strange environments.
She is rarely afraid unless there is a threat to her friends. Sam is very loyal to her friends and would do anything to protect and help them. The few times she has directly disobeyed an order from a commanding officer was to save her friends and teammates. Sam would never leave a member of her team behind. She once risked her life to save Cassandra, a young girl who was being used a living time bomb in an attempt to destroy the Stargate program’s base.
She relaxes by working on complicated astrophysics experiments or repairing a vintage motorcycle. Sam prefers to spend her time off in the lab. She also tends to be unlucky with dating, most of the guys she has dated have taken on the persona of a god and ruled a planet, died and turned in to a being of energy after attempting to destroy a powerful weapon, died while their planet was being attacked, or got injured when an alien attempted to kidnap a member of SG-1.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Sam is able to quickly learn how to use and fix new forms of technology. She holds a PhD in astrophysics and she is an experienced military officer. Sam is skilled at fighting, both hand-to-hand combat and using standard issue USAF weapons.
Also, she cannot cook to save her life.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
Sam blew up a sun once and she really likes blue jell-o.
[ Sample ] :
Sam had declined another one of Colonel O’Neill offers to go fishing in Montana. This time Teal’c had wisely decided to decline as well. He was currently using Sam’s lab to hide in, not that the Jaffa would admit to hiding from anything.
Sam was working on determining the proper power source of a memory device SG-10 had found in a mostly ruined library. Daniel had been very excited by the discovery of a library that belonged to a long gone race of alien peoples. Sam considered the possibility that the Colonel had timed his fishing trip to avoid Daniel begging to be taken to the Library Planet. At the moment all of Daniel’s hopes were hinging on Sam finding the power source and hoping the information on the device wasn’t an alien stash of romance novels.
“Hm. Interesting.” Sam looked at the readings on her computer.
“Did you find something new Major Carter?” Teal’c walked over to the lab bench to see what the computer was displaying.
“Possibly. These readings should show me what sort of energy source originally powered this device. The output looks like I might be able to adjust a naquadah generator to power this again. I would just need to make sure the power doesn’t exceed these parameters.” She pointed to a red line on the gently waving sine graph. “The device might short out if I run too much current through it.”
“Dr Jackson would be most disappointed if that happened.”
“If I can’t get the device powered by modifying the generator I’m probably going to have to take it apart and see if I can’t copy off the information directly. That might lead to data corruption though.” Sam pondered the device. “I’ll try powering it up first, once Daniel has the material to translate I can take it apart and see how it works.”
About half an hour later, after Daniel had stopped by the lab yet again to see if Sam had made any progress (this time he brought coffee and jello and was allowed to stay), Sam thought she had the power output correctly modified.
“This should work.” She clipped the power cord running from the generator to the memory device. There was a whirring noise, a few clicks and a holographic screen came to life over the device. Daniel jumped up from the stool he had been perched on and peered at the screen excitedly.
“It looks like we have an index. It might be in a variation of Goa’uld. Teal’c do you recognize any of these symbols?”
Sam took a step back. As much as she would like to see how the memory device worked there was no way she was going to pry Daniel away from it now. On the bright side Teal’c now had something to do other than meditate in the corner of her lab and Daniel would get his trip to the Library Planet. Colonel O’Neill would be grumpy about having to escort a very bouncy Dr Jackson to a library, but if those schematics that just popped up were plans to space ship... Well, it looked like everyone would get something out of a trip to SG-10’s Library Planet.
