I hate it when people say they're Christians & that church just isn't "their thing." It really pisses me off. It's so fake. And it's ignorant. If church isn't your thing, then you don't know God. You don't love Him. And you don't fear Him. And you obviously don't have a relationship with Him. Because that's what Christianity is about. Not freaking ( Read more... )

Well the Bible tells us that we are meant to glorify Him alone in everything we do, in ALL our actions.

I don't really know where I stand on this one, but I do think Christians should go to church, not because it's the "proper" thing to do or because it makes them appear better, but because when we truly love and pursue God, and when we have a longing to align our lives with his Word, then we will desire to be around people that build us up in our faith, and we will desire to learn more about Christ. Thus, we attend Church to do both things. Do not hear me saying that you MUST go to church to do these things; there are certainly ways to build Christian relationships with others and become a stronger Christian other than church, but attending Church (or any accountability group) will help us grow in our faith significantly.

Church is a huge accountability factor, and can catch us when we fall. "Church" is not a building, or a worship service, or a sermon; it is people, a group of people together who worship Christ, that can help us when we begin to stumble. And because of that, I could never not attend church. It certainly doesn't have to be as "big" with as many programs as Northland, just a group of Christians that you surround yourself with to help you.

But it's a fine line because too often we get consumed by church and it becomes our life, which is the very thing Jesus so eminently discourages. He wants us to be out lighting the world, shining among men, but he also wants us to come back to be fed, so we can go shine our light. If we depend on ourselves the light will dim, and eventually die; thus, every week or whatever, we need to be "re-fueled" and ready for the world again.

Also, I think that if we follow the habits of Jesus and follow the Bible we will mirror his example, where Jesus himself went to the temple to grow closer to God, and to revive a relationship that cannot survive alone. On the seventh day Jesus rested and awed at his creation, praising his Father in heaven. We, obviously should mirror this in our own behavior, and church is our way to do just that: awe at God’s beauty and worship him.

That’s my little two sense, so I hope I don’t offend anyone, but I do think that if you have a desire for Christ, you will have a desire to grow in Christ, whatever that may be.

I happen to like small churches.

It may be the fact that all the churches in my area are very large churches. The only small one I know if is a bunch of Southern Baptists and I don't get along with them because they frown apon reading things like Harry Potter and The Davinci Code (along with any other Dan Brown book), and horror books like Bram Stokers Dracula or watching horror movies, which I love.

That's not a stereotype either. I have friends that actually go to that particular church.

But like I said, I really don't like large groups of people. Only when it comes to concerts.

But then again maybe that's how some people are with church.

The point I'm trying to make is, I hate big churches. If I go to church I want everyone to know everyone else. Small Churches = Garrett Style Church

I am reading The Da Vinchi Code right now actually.

Its fascinating really.
I plan to read his others but usually when an author has a best-selling book the others he has written aren't as good, but we shall see.
