The thing about happily ever afters is they aren’t real. It’s a load of bull. Who ever created the line was on some serious crack and needed to share with the rest of the world. Dean couldn’t believe that after all the stuff he and Sam went through could result some way in a happily ever after. It just, well it wasn’t ever going to happen for either of them.
But it did.
Dean hadn’t ever been so happy or felt so alive that this had to be his happily ever after. Working on cars while Sam nattered on to whatever hunter needed their advice and living out in the middle of nowhere.
The Winchesters were notorious in the world of hunting. So when they both lived past their fortieth birthdays it was a sign. Probably the best thing that had ever happened to them. Settling down. They ran an intel hub for hunters across the country, handing out information that they had and gathering as much as they could. They had neighbors that they could do more than nod and wave to. Their pictures weren’t plastered on police wanted walls. Instead they were hanging in subtle frames around the house. They didn’t eat from fast food joints unless they were in a pinch and bars were for drinks not hustling.
Normal wasn’t Dean’s idea of happily ever after when he was younger but now? Living here with Sam, breathing the same air and laughing more than he ever had was the perfect picture of happily ever after.
