Oy vey. A day off with nothing to do = so not fun. So once again I find myself wandering downtown to the internet cafe and then I'll go wandering around town until I find something to do. Cayo Hueso, Cayo Hueso....this place so ain't right. Time goes by so fast down here. I can't believe it's almost frickin' July. I also can't believe that it's already been a month since I was at home. Crazyness....
So work is going great. I've been bartending and serving at both Red Fish and Jack Flats. I think my boss must really like me to give me 3 bartending shifts in a row at Jack Flats. I love, love, love bartending down here. I've met some cool people and I just generally have a lot of fun. On Friday and Saturday I had to be at RFBF at 7:30 in the morning to work the inside bar. Getting up at 5:45 was not cool, but working that bar was different. At least when I'm bored I have the servers to talk to (unlike in the front bar where I am all by myself). Friday was also the "Grand Opening" of Red Fish, Blue Fish which was a blast. I wasn't scheduled to work the party, but there was no way that I wasn't going to. So I worked from 7:30-5:30, came back at 6:30 and worked until 10. I was the floater bartender - going from the inside bar to the front bar, doing a lot of cleaning and clearing at the bar and just helping out when it was busy. I was in my element. I felt like I was back at the yacht club because I didn't even need to ask what had to be done, I just kinda did my own thing and had so much fun. Of course as soon as I was done working, I started to enjoy the party with a few drinks with fellow staff members. So much fun and funny pictures to prove it. Unfortunately on Saturday I had to work at 7:30 again and that was definitely a rough morning. Especially since I had to get a ride home with one of my friends so I had to call a cab at 7 in the morning...good times though. Of course Saturday night even though I was tired as hell, I ended up going out with the Fish gang and didn't get in until after 4 in the morning. BUT, I was the DD that night and had to make sure several people got home safely. Still a good time with many stories to share the next day. And oh yeah, I had to get up at 8 yesterday. Way to go to 3 nights of less then 4 hours of sleep. Then last night I ended up hanging out with one of my managers after work - drinking at Jack Flats and Cafe Marquesas, and then followed by some bowling at Stick N Stein. Of course we ended up back at Jack Flats after that and I had to play the role of the "caretaker" again for the second night in a row. Who knows what is going to happen tonight. It's Key West. Anything could happen.
Now that I'm here not just for the winter, I have goals that I have set for myself. And then big goal being that within a year of working with this company (hopefully sooner...but I'm giving it a year deadline) something will come of my hard work and I'll be able to use my degree with what I went to college for. Meaning, that I want to be a manager. Maybe that's a really big goal to set for myself, but I've always set high standards for myself and this will be no different. I still have a lot of stuff to learn, a lot of questions to be answered and some skills to work on but I think if I continue doing what I'm doing, then I'm going to get somewhere. I have to. There's really no other option. Well, actually there are many other options but I really like working for this company and I want to continue working for this company for a while to come. I've talked to a lot of people about, including some of the managers that I work with now. (It's good to actually be friends with managers and be able to hang out outside of work.) So probably within the next couple of weeks I'm going to have to talk to the owner of the company and see what I can do. What do I have to lose, right?
Alright, I'm starving, it's 5:30 and I haven't eaten anything all day so it'd probably be a good idea to get some food. Until we meet again....peace out cub scout.
