I am sure those who also do not have any official matches will wish to pass the time with more opponents. It seems to be a popular choice, to fight every trainer they come across.

That would be a fair assessment for a generalisation. The world here in general intrigues me, so I may as well see learn all that I can firsthand. ^_^

Does it? I think it rather strange how much they encourage children to not progress with their studies and run around with Pokemon, instead. Is there anyone that works towards getting a legitimate job?

I suppose this cannot quite be compared to the role of Hunters in Killua's world, but the way that Pokemon are so heavily integrated in the lives of people in this world does seem to impact their daily life. As for your question, the employees at the Pokemon Centers should classify as having legitimate jobs.
