Went kayaking up on the skykomish thursday. This time we put in on the north fork, at the index bridge. Despite the less than stellar lines I had before reaching the confluence I thoroughly enjoyed the north fork as a put in. It's far more continuous than the south fork put in above cable drop. Once again, I chickened out and walked around boulder drop, then was punished by the river gods by promptly flipping at the top of the next rapid (a snappy combat roll kept me from running the rest of it upside down). Today I was planning on running the nisqually, but high winds would have made that a miserable day on the river. Thursday and friday hold the possibility of more paddling, although the rivers and other boaters have not yet been figured out. I'm now trying to get out on a river at least once a week, and spend more time in my boat at pool sessions too. Lonliness has been hitting me pretty hard lately, and kayaking has been the most effective escape from that. I've also been noticing my confidence on the river has skyrocketed since I've started to boat more frequently. Still have yet to run any of my three goal runs this season. We'll see if I can knock down one or two of them in the next few weeks. Number three will have to wait until spring.
