It is the start of the school year. They call this period the Honeymoon, for good reason.
I am so excited about my curriculum; it is hard to get to sleep the first few nights. I am happy to see my colleagues and hear about their summers. I love the kids and they love me. We are all excited, even as we struggle to wake up on time and sadly kiss summer good bye. There is an energy that is electric. No one makes trouble or assigns too much homework. Even people who frustrated us in the past, seem sweet, smart and wonderful. Students put up with bad jokes, lofty goals and plans.
The trick is to keep both parties happy as the year moves forward and the relationships get strained.
