The grocery had mangos on sale so, curious, I bought one. I've never had fresh mango before, only knowing it from chutneys and flavorings. Consequently, I don't have the slightest idea if it's ripe. I got one that smells faintly like I imaging a mango should, and I check every so often so to see if the flesh gives under my touch, but I'm a bit worried that now I'm just squashing it, and that's why it seems to be ripening. At some point it will start to rot, so I'm not sure when I should just give in and cut it open. The internet is not being terribly helpful on this one. I should have bought a number of them, so I could sacrifice one each day until I figured out what a ripe mango looks like.
