The first time the character voices came out of the Wiimote speaker I nearly dropped it. XD;

Mall haul from last night:
- Enchanted on Blu-ray
- Super Smash Bros.: Brawl for Wii
- Family Complex by Mikiyo Tsuda

Enchanted was adorable as usual; this is one of those movies I could watch a billion times and not be tired of. And it's GORGEOUS on Blu-ray, especially the animation bits; Disney had better start doing old-fashioned animation again, it's CRIMINAL not to when it looks so amazing in hi-res.

Super Smash Bros. Melee seems awesome so far, as expected. I'm a little sad that they nerfed Jigglypuff, or so I read - I used to love using a perfectly-timed Rest and watching people fly off the screen in Melee - but nevertheless they added plenty to make up for it. (Pit! Snake! Sonic! etc.) So far I've only played a few practice rounds and beat Classic Mode on Easy with Peach, but I'm really liking it so far. I may try out the GameCube controller, though, since I've been using the Wiimote on its side and I'm getting videogame thumb; my hands are no longer as inured to sliding around a D-pad as they were when I was younger. So, looks like it's time to switch to a joystick. D:

Oddly, I've spent more time in the Sound Test so far than in the game itself; I'd read a long time ago about the awesome number of videogame composers they'd gotten to arrange music for this game, but I'd forgotten until I checked it out! In addition to what I think of as the Big Three videogame composers - Nobuo Uematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda and Motoi Sakuraba - we get Yoko Shimomura, Noriyuki Iwadare, Michiko Naruke, and others, as well as traditional Nintendo composers like Koji Kondo getting to do stuff outside of "their" series (I seem to remember a Kondo remix of one of the Mario themes, for example).

...Really the only "big" composers I noticed (i.e., strongly associated with a major series of videogames) were missing were Shoji Meguro and Tenpei Sato. (I'm sure there are others, but those are just from the games I play, i.e. weeaboo RPGs.) Maybe in the next Smash Bros. game? And hey, while we're talking about stuff we'd like in the next one, now that non-Nintendo characters are available how about some Mega Man up in this here joint?

Also they'd better as hell release this soundtrack on CD, but that goes without saying.

More on Family Complex (..."FamiCom," lol) later...I'm working on a post pimping Tsuda's manga out to all of my flist who like manga but have yet to read it.

Edit: Also, for any of y'all wondering, my Friends code is 0507 4481 5143 1684.

Edit 2: Since apparently SSBB uses its own set of friend codes (srsly, Nintendo, wtf), my code there is 0173-1151-1451.

shameless consumerism, movies, videogame nattering
