Ria sat on her chair.
The sound of the chalk echoed as the silence in the room complimented it.
She could hear certain sighs of frustration, and some yawns from the back of the room.
Without turning her head, she could see her seatmate already drooling in her sleep.
"Emi, wake up."
"Huh?"
Too late. The teacher spotted her. In an instant, her friend was waken up by her teacher's friendly greeting.
"Good morning, Miss Em-"
Without a warning, Emi shot up from her chair and shouted; "The aliens are coming!"
The silence was broken with a roar of laughter. Ria just giggled.
"Err...sorry 'bout that..."
She said shyly and went back on her seat.
"You should be careful next time. If you want to sleep, sleep on Mr. Takada's class. He doesn't even mind."
Ria whispered to her friend as she lent the notes that she was copying earlier. Emi apologetically accepted and started to copy like crazy.
The next thing she knew, she already copied two pages worth of notes.
"Ria.."
"Hm?"
She turned her gaze at her friend and asked enthusiastically;
"Do you still like him?"
Ria looked at her with a bit of uncertainty, but gradually lowered her gaze until she could see the blank white paper in front of her.
"No."
Her voice turned silent and got back her focus on the black board in front of her. She knew that if the teacher caught them talking, they'll have to spend 10 minutes with him while he endlessly talk about respect to elders and things related to those.
She doesn't want to be late coming home again.
The sound of the bell echoed through the halls and seconds later, the sound of students rushing out of their classrooms can be heard.
"Ria! Let's go before the cafeteria runs out of pizza!!"
With that Emi grabbed her best friend's wrist and dragged her along the hall ways.
"Wait..Emi, I have my own bento....I don't need.."
The students behind them started to act recklessly and accidentally pushed Ria. Thankfully, a tall guy with a brown body bag was in front of her to cushion her fall.
"I'm....sorry..."
She looked up and met the guy face to face and looked at each others eyes.
Ria smiled, then stood up, breaking the connection between them. Her heart skipped a beat but then sank when she saw her best friend's concerned face. But all she could do is show a smile while saying that she was fine.
"Are you sure?"
Emi looked at her and sensed something wrong. But after seeing her friend's smile, she sighed and thought that it was nothing.
Which is exactly what Ria wants.
How could she ever love a guy who never really set an eye on her?
Once Emi bought her lunch and bugged Ria to lend her money so that she could buy it, they sat down on an empty table and started eating.
The atmosphere inside the cafeteria was not that rowdy, since its small and most of the students in the school have bentos or eat outside of campus.
As Ria started eating her lunch, she looked at the little chopped up carrots and frowned.
She had just lost her appetite.
"uhg..."
She stared at it for a while then started to eat everything in her bento except the carrots. As she struggled eating, her friend just find it amusing and cute.
Suddenly, from the corner of her eyes, she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure. As it grew closer and closer, she dared not to look and just acted as normal as she can be.
"Oh, Haru!"
A tall guy holding three books came. It was the same guy that Ria bumped into earlier. Without looking at him, she followed her gaze and saw the brown bag then confirmed it was indeed him.
He took the half eaten pizza from his mouth and spoke;
"I need to copy the notes from Math."
His gaze set upon Emi and in an instant it crushed Ria's heart. She did expect it, but she can't help being hurt.
Emi is beautiful, out going, and is easy to talk to that even a guy like Haru is able to communicate with her.
Without asking for a reason why, Emi replied;
"Oh, I slept in his class today. You can borrow Ria's though.."
With that, she grinned and gave Ria a friendly kick below the table.
".....here."
Ria rummaged through her bag and handed the notes to Haru.
"................."
"................"
Both of them didn't say anything and Haru just took the notes then left with his friends trying to stop giggling on the side.
He just ignored them though. All he can remember is the warmth of Ria's hands. How can he possibly say that he has a crush on her?
She is smart, kind and although she doesn't know, she stands out from the crowd.
So how can he possibly match up to her?
