Barley Mow Folk/Acoustic Night

Apr 05, 2005 00:26

For a change an open entry! Tonight was bloody great again, I walked to the Barley Mow which was a nice bit of excercise, especially as I had my acoustic on my back (just like in 'All The Way From Memphis'!). Met Jerry and Pete who are a folk duo and a good laugh, and I have to say I really enjoyed hooking up with Pete (who I know from a previous life, but he didn't recognise me!), Emma (who digged our set and hopefully will come to see us again with her mate) and Emma's mate with the degree in Maths and Human Geography, lol. It was a strange night. Anyway, tonight I rattled through (either on lead or backing vocals, or just guitar):

The First Cut Is The Deepest (shared lead vox with a woman-didn't catch her name)
Wanted Dead Or Alive (guitar and backing vocals)
Knocking On Heavens Door (lead vocals on first verse)
Wish You Were Here (guitar)
Maggie May (guitar and additional vocals)
Father And Son (lead vox)
Ooh La La (shared lead vocals with RJS)
Delilah (guitar and backing vocals)
Perfectly Comfortable (lead vox)
Working Class Hero (lead vox)
Don't Look Back In Anger (backing vocals and guitar)
Earth (lead vocals)
Message In A Bottle (bits of guitar and backing vocals)
Good Riddance (guitar?)
Lola (guitar)
Tie Your Mother Down (first verse and chorus only)
Strange Frontier (just the first verse for me and Rich, something I have to do)

PLUS various traditional tunes that I picked up, either chords or doing asides! There may be other songs, but these are the ones that spring to mind! Note, no Hey Joe, Wild World, Cocaine or some of our other set stuff in there, and what was was only done in small sections. Bodes well...

Can I just say thank you to everyone for tonight, it really was a shot in the arm for me knowing I could just walk in and play on some of these songs with people, even songs I don't even know. The traditional stuff is the most challenging for me, and it was nice to meet people that knew of Tom Wallace, some knew him quite well. That was a surprise, and I suppose it bought me some cred with them. I now have to decide what to play next week as I really did do more than I was going to tonight! Was that the best night I've had out musically? To be honest, in many ways it was a great experience, I won't forget it in a hurry!
