I thought our performance tonight as a band was very promising. Okay, there were mistakes but they can be put right, and some can be put down to something that I'll come to in a minute. As a band I thought we were really good, I thought Steve showed flair and passion like I've never seen before, I thought Rich was brilliant with his basslines and James really added something to our sound. I wasn't happy with my vocal-I didn't think it had enough power but I couldn't hear myself. I actually thought it would sound crap but having heard some of Steve's recording I thought it actually sounded quite nice. I'm not a singer of these songs though. Thank you to everyone that came tonight and for making it happen for us, old friends, the Vine crew, Dooner, Vince (nice to see you-we will go out for a drink soon!).
What has really pissed me off though is the house band leader. The attitude to getting all the gear set up and the timekeeping (we weren't on till about 10:30 at least) was shit, but this is nothing compared to their leader. First of all he did the name thing again, then throughout the set was constantly belittling us. I heard something about three minute songs (i.e Big Me) which was probably some dig at us for doing something from the last ten years, plus various other little things. I did see him turn the mics down after Al Cormell had turned them up, Rich's mic was dead of that I'm quite sure, and James had shit treatment with his amp. There was no way that was distorted, he was being fucked over by them and for that matter my guitar sound had the same problem...I've never had that before using the same type of amp down there. What really did it was a semi joking..."right, thank you, now fuck off" after we were done. I really could have smacked him, and I think someone else may well have. I believe it's all on the tape, along with various other things.
I announce now I will never be playing the Maverick again due to the nature of the event now being very much a mates club. I'm not going into everything that fucked me off tonight but that is some stuff for you. As a band we were okay, a good performance, and thank you to everyone for coming. I think we will put together about three more songs and look for a support set. We did 14 minutes of material tonight which was good in my opinion. Thank you once more for all your kind words. I'd love to see some of the many photos that were taken tonight if someone could get them to me.
