As some of you may know, I've been spending a little bit of time lately playing SimCity 4 here and there. I quite like it, it's kind of zen and relaxing. Lately I've been keen on making an interpretation of Washington DC in the game. Partly because the game comes with many famous DC landmarks, and partly because I've sort of become a bit enamoured with the city after playing Fallout 3 so much.
And because
chibi_bahamut threatened economic sanctions asked nicely, I'm going to post up a couple of screen shots of my efforts. So if this stuff is not your bag, feel free to skip the following and go back to looking at your porn.
First up is a zoomed out view overlooking the river and what would be the Washington Mall. Unfortunately I lack the tools to easily create water bodies above sea level, so the we lack the Tidal Basin, as well as the Reflecting Pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial - here we have a strip of lawn instead.
A closer look will also show that the game's representation of the White House also lacks the east and west wings, and is perhaps a little larger by comparison than the actual White House.
Also, as a
ventriloquist comedian once said, the Washington Monument really does look like a tribute to Bill Clinton.
On the other bank, we have what would be Arlington Cemetery, along with the Pentagon and Regan National Airport. Unfortunately since the game doesn't have a Pentagon structure, it has been substituted here with a solar power station. Because, making clean energy is better than making war. Y'know, since clean energy, love, drugs, and all that hippy crap all go hand in hand.
Looking the Mall in the other direction from the Clinton Washington Memorial, you'll probably notice some empty spots along the Mall where museums and the like should be. This was because at the time of taking this aerial photo screenshot, I lacked the money for some museum.
Thus concludes our tour of Little DC. Please be sure to visit our gift shop next to the exit on your way out. We hope you have had a pleasant tour, and hope to see you again in the future.
