Though I don't have an exact date, this July marks 10 years since I first started following Morning Musume and Hello!Project. So many things have changed in my life over the past 10 years but not my love of these Japanese Pop music idols.
I still remember how it all started. The spring/summer of 2003 was when I was very sick in terms of my mental health. I was in and out of hospitals and trying desperately to find a way to cope with my depression. One of my friends on LiveJournal posted one of those quiz-result banner things and the quiz was "Which Morning Musume Member Are You?". So I took the quiz-thing, my result was Asami Konno. A few days later the quiz thing was still on my mind so I decided to start researching Morning Musume.
The first song I heard/video I saw was "I Wish". I liked the perky, up-beat tune and I liked the sound of the lyrics, even if I couldn't understand them. I liked the song even more after I read the translation of the lyrics.
I also remember watching a subtitled interview where Ai Takahashi said she liked Destiny's Child's music because it didn't make her think as much because the lyrics were in another language so listening to the music is more relaxing. That's another reason I like Japanese music so much.
So much is different now. Since I started following Hello!Project I've moved a total of 11 times since then & have lived in 4 different states. My health has been up and down. I'm not a teenager anymore. Things have finally stabilized and now I'm finally settling into my adult life. My life has changed more than it hopefully ever will again. But Hello!Project has always been a constant thing in my life. A tool I can use to relax and lift my spirits up when I'm down.
As of recently I've been able to express my love for the group in a new way because of idol!swap. In the past I've been limited to getting fan goods through Ebay, CDJapan & YesAsia but idol!swap has given me access to so much new fan merchandise I didn't even know existed before letalone could actually get(mainly because I don't live in Japan).
I hope to be a Hello!Project fan for the rest of my life and my dream is still to attend one of the concerts. Their music has done more for me than I can ever express in my own words.
