oh god. the American football sponsors are going to watch tonight's practice, so the team was asked to suit up in their proper jerseys and full pads. i walked into Chris's room before he left and kind of... froze. he looks so different. my brain had to go through a readjustment of psychological values. it's hard for me (even if it makes me snobby or judgemental) to look at a football player and not think, "Oh look, a brainless jock." it's really really hard! even after the wonderboy that was Joey Nemet. Chris still has his cheeky grin and spiky hair, but he's like, doubled in width. thankfully he's not one of those men who looks like a football player even without his pads, eeek.
made yummy French toast for dinner last night, foregoing pancakes. English pancakes are more like crepes, and what we North Americans see as real pancakes are apparently more like "Scotch pancakes", whatever those are. i wanted to make something decently squishy and able to soak up maple syrup, and it's been ages since i've had French toast. or, as the Brits call it, "eggy bread". goodness. Chris and i ate them with the aforementioned syrup, and defrosted cherries/currants/rasperries, mmm.
went into town this morning to buy the tickets for Newcastle. Friday morning Chris and i are off to the clubbing capital of England to - predictably - do anything but dance, haha. i just wanted to get out for another day trip, and it was either Manchester or Newcastle, as both are relatively close and house enough distractions for at least a day of fun. Chris is in trouble if there's a Primark though... also in York, bought some essentials from Boots, a black (mini?) skirt and jean capris from New Look. neither were too expensive. i was really looking only for jeans, but i couldn't find any that fit well, and i figured as it's warming up, soon i won't mind shorter lengths. oh, and i also went to the city library to get a York Card - free entry into the museums and discounts on other attractions, yay! i'm still in awe of York's beauty. even if it's grey and miserable and i'm in a bad mood - at the end of the day, i'm still in England!! never gets old.
came back, ate lunch while watching Vicky Cristina Barcelona. i'd recommend it, i guess. not one of my favourites (i abhor Scarlett Johansson) but Rebecca Hall and Javier Bardem were nice and talented. afterwards, went with Dutchie to order our college hoodies. yay Goodricke! no one in Canada will know what Goodricke College is and will presume that it's some unaccredited base-level college of tertiary education, but i suppose it'll have to do, haha. am looking forward to receiving it nonetheless!
