much-needed update

I wasn't planning to update my journal this soon, but Rebecca (from Brandeis) finally convinced me to. I've been talking to her online quite a lot lately (we met on facebook). It's really cool that we have similar academic interests and have other stuff in common, too. (Can you say Yasser Seirawan?!) Together we have expressed our frustration about the sporadic appearances of the Intro to International Relations course on the Brandeis website, been annoyed by a certain individual on aim, and plenty more. My Kerry-bashing techniques are fruitless against her. We've been talking since like Thursday, and I think we've grossed around 10 hours of aim chatting. She lives in Seattle so the time difference does get a bit annoying. Regardless, it's good to have a friend at 'deis before I actually get there.

I'm planning to take these courses...
Intro to International Relations
Intro to Economics or Intro to Finance (if i can)
Russian Language and Literature (for bilinguals like me who have difficulty writing/reading)

And I'm being forced to take a seminar course that focuses on writing skillz.
I'm pretty sure that 4 classes at 'deis Freshman year is the standard thing to do.

Oh, I just checked my mail. Brandeis sent me the book, Yellow (I know that should be underlined). It's a collection of stories about Asian American culture that has to be read by orientation. Evidently, we will be meeting the author and discussing the book with him at the end of August during orientation. Cool. So that's 3 books I have to read this summer. HP 6, Da Vinci Code, and now Yellow, it seems.

Unfortunately, however, it turns out that my room will be in the basement of Renfield Hall. It's a coed dormitory hall, but I'm just wondering who else has been placed in the basement.

I guess I could also fill in what has happened to me since the last update, albeit not much. 4th of July was cool. I went to Boston with Hagit, Sara (from my Eurotrip. it was awesome to see her again and realize how little both of us have changed), and some other people. We also randomly saw Gleb there on the train station. We had to take the same train. The fireworks were pretty good, but we had to leave early in order to catch our train. Turns out they had delayed the trains just for the fireworks, so I guess we missed them for nothing.

Then the week was basically spent working and going to the gym. I was recently at the gym with Patrick, which was cool.

Last night Matt and I hung out. Our DVD player is broken, which really sucks.

Oh, and I forgot to mention how I DESTROYED the Shaw's record for fastest scan time. I think that up until now, the fastest time had been 2.02 seconds, but mine is 1.48. The large majority of people's scan times fall anywhere between 2.5 and 3.2. There are outliers in both directions. Fowler, for instance, is one of the slowest. Matt's is also pretty impressive.

Oh, and before I forget. Hagit, I know that you imed me last night from Poland. I responded to your IM, but it doesn't seem like you noticed. Anyways, enjoy the rest of your trip.

"Hit that hand...hit it....ok, i'm tagging out."
